A second round pick, 53 to be exact, that turned into Rasmus andersson. He has 19 points in 90 games. Baertschi took 51 games to get to 21 points and is now putting up just over 0.5 points a game.

It was a good trade

And do some research before calling someone out, you might not look as bad as you're trying to make them lookB)

We are going to disregard the whole D vs wing part of this calculation.

I am not saying it was or wasn't a decent trade but that is not a reasonable comparison between players.

Frankly I would rather have Anderson but that is fully a hindsight thing and has more to do with concussions.

If you accept the concept that we needed to fill in the roster with some 20 somethings at that time, the Vey and Baertschi deals were both reasonable.  I don't agree with the concept but the trades were reasonable.

I totally agree.  Seems like the moment one of our guys starts building an injury history the fanbase want to get rid of them.  I understand the reasoning, but I don't think it is fair.

Baer has had concussions, of course. But if he manages to avoid them going forward, I have seen growth in his game that leads be to believe he is capable of 50 points with Bo and another good winger.

Sutter has played his role very well for us until injuries hit and then he was... well.... pretty bad.  But if comes back 100% and we see the Sutter of old, I think he can return to being an effective 3rd line player.  He will likely have the opportunity of playing with fringe 2nd liners as we have increased our forward depth so I feel he may be poised to have a bounceback year.

Used to be that Joe Montana was held up as a hero because of all the injuries he was able to come back from.

In the internet era we blame the players for getting injured and that just isn't right.

Sutter is tough, I think he has a reputation and a name that are better than he has been as a player for us.

He has been where offence goes to die since he came to the Canucks.  The advanced stats era has really changed the view on defensive specialists.  If they aren't providing some meaningful offence they have to be truly elite defensively.

Old school GMs like Benning that might be interested in Sutter are getting harder to find, he will need to come back healthy and start providing some effective play to be tradeable this year.

Here are points totals of last years players being possibly replaced by this years, at least to start

Baer, Sutter or another player may be gone so this is as of now.

This can be up for debate but it just goes to show the production increase that we hope to get this year with the offensive depth added.

2018-19- points before acquisitions

Granlund- 22

Gaudette- 12- may start in AHL

Schaller- 10

Leipsic- 5

Hutton-20

Gudbranson- 10

Pouliot- 12

Total- 91

___________________________

2018-19 replacement player points past year

Miller- 47

Pearson- 27

Ferland- 40

Leivo- 18

Myers- 31

Hughes- 35 projected.-  he had 3 point in 5 games so had to tail this projection back somewhat as certain don't expect 50 points

Benn- 22

Total - 220

Different positions sure

But when scoring is an issue you go out and get it.

Anderssons TOI was 16/game, 19 points.

Hutton had 25 his first full year as a comparable.

The point is we got a second liner

Flames got a 5-6 dman. They're everywhere. Hell we had 4 on the bench each game last year

From what I've heard, Coach Green has been very instrumental in attracting some of these UFA signings as well. If players like a coach it can go along ways to their decisions.

Travis has done a great job and I think Ferland will be just what the coach ordered. I know last year some people (myself included at times) were upset with either comments or actions by Travis when it came to Petey and the manhandling he received with no response from the team to defend him - however that seemed to change when Schenn came on the team and I expect Ferland will deter this not only for Petey but also Quinn and Brock.

Ferland   Petey     Brock

Miller      BO         Pearson

Leivo     Sutter     Virtanen

Motte     Beagle   MacEwen

Goldobin

Roussel (LTIR)

I'm sorry but there is no room for Baertschi anymore.  He's not a 4th line player and we have guys we can call up like Gaudette plus maybe Goldobin to fill in for injuries.  We also have Roussel who will be back in December.  I like Jake on the 3rd line as he adds more truculence which is what we need and Leivo is also a big body.  I like the look of our top 9 right now.  We got some big bodies and lots of skill as well.

Baertschi hopefully can be traded for a pick at full salary, if we have to retain so be it.  Eriksson will be the bigger problem.  Other than those two contracts we are actually quite fine.  We have lots of young guys on the way as the cupboard is full now.  I like our D too, some big bodies added there too.

We are going to be a difficult team to play against next year.  Just like Jim Benning has always envisioned.  We all know now he was the one who created that Boston team that was big and nasty.  Chiarelli was just a side show.

Imo JB has totally reshaped this team and honestly I'm not a JB die hard. I like Myers, Miller and Ferland a lot and think this team has the perfect blend of skill, strength and energy. Imo Markstrom will continue his solid play. JB imo has made some poor trades, Vey and Baertschi come to mind, he has also made some bad signings but imo with the last 3 drafts and this off season he has totally given me a lot more confidence.

its been gone over ad nauseam but I don't know that the Baer deal can be called 'poor'. His stats are solidly in top 6-7 range. Yes he's got his bell rung but so did a lot of guys. His production for the cost of a 2nd was solid value.

Vey.... I mean who knew what was going on in his private life, good god. I think LA did know though before they moved him to us.

Says the guy that just compared a dman to a winger. You don't look bad, just clueless.

Picks for other teams projects is never a solid decision imo. It's not like I'm totally angry I just wanted to point that out b4 I praised JB so I didn't get called a "jb nut hugger."
