A familiar face: Vancouver defenceman Jordie Benn will face his old Canadiens teammates for the first time since signing a two-year, US$4-million contract with the Canucks as a free agent on July 1. In 34 games with the Canucks, Benn has 0-6-6 totals and is minus-5 while averaging 16:55 of ice time. Benn has been playing with Troy Stecher on the Canucks’ third defence pairing. No sophomore jinx: Canucks centre Elias Pettersson has picked up right where he left off last season when he won the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie with 28-38-66 totals in 71 games. This season, the 6-foot-2, 176-pound Swede, has 14-21-35 totals in 34 games. The Canucks selected the 21-year-old in the first round (fifth overall) at the 2017 NHL Draft. Left-winger J.T. They rank 27 in penalties taken and 30th in penalties drawn. if Vancouver can get Montreal to take a few penalties they stand a good chance of winning. This is one of the five or maybe six games I thought the Canucks would win in December. Montreal has been playing tight games, low scoring recently. The Canucks have their playoff lives on the line, one more loss and the mole hill is becoming a mountain. But they should win this one Observation - Horvat's line is a checking line. A bit of concern might be with Markstrom getting tired, he got aired out recently. He has been traveling a lot changing time zones big time and then back to backs, if he has any issues then all bets are off.
