Billabong says it wasn't a perfect win. In my opinion it was a very good win. I admit that Buffalo is not a great team but the Canucks are in the middle of a tough road trip playing an afternoon game in the East (which is always tough on west coast teams). The Canucks held the Sabres to a respectable shot total of under 30 (actually 28). More importantly, according to Natural Stat Trick, Vancouver outchanced Buffalo 24 to 16. In terms of high danger chances, the Canucks were ahead 11 to 4. That is a big margin and shows that the Canucks had a big territorial edge. The Canucks played a very good 3rd period from a defensive point of view, making good decisions and making high percentage plays. The Canucks were charged with 0 (zero) giveaways in the game. They were very focused on puck management. I would also mention that the Canucks had a good start and were unlucky not to score the first goal. I don't think you could realistically ask for a better road win. 2. Eichel is a great player and he played very well again today. There seems to be some mis-perception on CDC about shutting down Eichel. Here are the numbers: Horvat, Eriksson, and Pearson each had over 9 minutes at even strength against Eichel. They were the primary shutdown line. In addition, Pettersson had over 4 minutes against Eichel. Green tried to keep the Gaudette line away from Eichel and Gaudette had 1:52 against Eichel. The Beagle line has some early shifts against Eichel, but Green moved to the Horvat line as the primary shutdown line for most of the game. Motte had only 1:49 against Eichel at even strength. 3. Following from point 2, I have made this comment at least 4 times recently and it continues to be true. Since Eriksson joined the Horvat line, that line has gotten the primary shutdown role and done a great job. And they are putting points on the board. I agree with Devron that I would favour laying off the negative Eriksson memes. When he was playing poorly (most of his time in Vancouver) I was critical of him. But he has been excellent for the past 12 games or so playing with Horvat. I was glad to see him get an empty-netter today. He deserved to get on the board. And, after starting the season at 0 for 14 (zero points in his first 14 games) , he has 6 pts in his last 12 games (playing with Horvat) despite playing heavy shutdown minutes and playing well on the PK. If he can continue to perform at that level he will be a significant plus for the team. And Horvat and Pearson have both been better since Eriksson joined that line. 4. Back to Motte. I thought he did have a good game today and he made a nice play on the Virtanen goal and so did Gaudette. Nice to see both Gaudette and Virtanen on the board today. Gaudette plays with high energy and I think he is a very good young player who continues to get better, although he is prone to defensive mistakes. Virtanen has been inconsistent for the past few games and was inconsistent tonight, making some questionable defensive plays. But he also made some very good plays, including on his goal. 5. As for the D, Hughes logged almost 9 minutes against Eichel at even strength. I agree completely with the logic of playing Hughes in this role. Often, the best way of "shutting down" opposing forwards is to hold on to the puck, and no one on team controls the puck better than Hughes (not even EP). Hughes had a great game tonight, leading the team in Corsi. The team attempted 24 shots with him on the ice and gave up only 11 attempts. Those are outstanding numbers and are even more impressive considering his quality of competition. His primary partner, Tanev, also had an excellent game. 6. Finally, John Garrett picked Boeser and EP as stars today (along with Eichel). Boeser, EP and Miller were all excellent today, accounting for 3 goals as a line. EP only got one assist but he made good plays on all three of those goals. And Boeser had his best game in quite a while. He almost got a hat-trick and had a team-high 8 shots on goal. 7. So I would say it was very good performance overall after two very disappointing games in Florida. Their record of 8-2 is the best record they have had over a 10 game stretch in the past 2 years. And if they can get 3 pts in the last 2 games of the road trip, it would have to be viewed as a successful trip. 1 3 3

Some people attacked him for disagreeing with the no-goal call that turned out to be the correct call upon further review. Us with the sportsnet feed only got the laggy blurry overhead view that made it look like a goal. In between periods they showed the clear view provided by MSG network that showed it was clearly not a goal. Timråfan
Easy win as predicted and it shows that there is big differences between the better teams versus us in the middle and the worse. We didn't even have to rely on luck this time.

Thanks @JamesB always enjoy reading your posts, couldn't agree more on all points, I think it's time to bury the hate for poor old LE, he has done well recently and has finally brought some completion to the Horvat line. Toyotasfan
Boeser hasn’t had success with that blistering wrist shot this year , but he is not as soft anymore . He's playing tougher, hitting, and going to the front of the net. I think he’s trying to emulate J.T. Miller’s game a little. He’s adapting his game and it’s a good thing.
