Popular Post SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
Former Canuck Gino Odjick is fighting heart disease again The Maniwaki Mauler says he's confident he'll be able to beat amyloidosis again. He first suffered from the heart ailment in 2014. Author of the article: Patrick JohnstonOct 17, 2020 Six years after Gino Odjick was at death’s door, the heart ailment that had doctors telling him he had just a year to live at best has returned. The former Canucks enforcer, nicknamed the Maniwaki Mauler, told Ottawa francophone newspaper Le Droit his doctors determined about a month ago that he was once again dealing with amyloidosis, a rare condition that produces protein deposits in the heart. A bout with the disease in 2014 reduced his heart function to just 25 per cent of its usual power and doctors told him he should prepare for the end. A last-ditch attempt at chemotheraphy at an Ottawa hospital reversed his condition. The hope then was that he wouldn’t have a recurrence of the disease for another 20 years. “It came back about a month ago,” he told Le Droit. “They (his doctors) found it early, so I am very confident that I will be able to get rid of it. It was a shock, but what can you do? … There were several treatment options, but I asked to follow the same one I had in Ottawa as it had worked. I’m on chemo for the next six months.” https://www.google.ca/amp/s/theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/former-canuck-gino-odjick-is-fighting-heart-disease-again/wcm/b07b20bb-c800-4a70-8994-a5d19c780108/amp/ https://twitter.com/jamescybulski/status/1317314051781750784?s=21 Just gutted tonight to learn that Gino’s amyloidosis has returned, and far sooner than anyone expected. Thankfully, it sounds like they caught this early and there’s reason to be optimistic that Gino should respond well to the chemotherapy. Sending all my best wishes and good vibes Gino’s way, as once again, he undergoes treatment for this heart ailment. 10 4 1 6
Popular Post King Heffy
He's beaten this once and I'm confident he'll do it again. 25% of Gino's heart is still more than most operating at full power. Pulling for both him and his family to get through this. 6

Have to select carefully, only so much room I agree that it's not an honor to hand out like Halloween candy. But there have been a few names overlooked that need to get in. I've campaigned for Richard Brodeur for some time. Our second captain (and part of our first ever 1970 team) Andre Boudrias should have been inducted while he was still alive. And the final two that absolutely belong are our two greatest enforcers, the role that requires the most heart and a role which no longer exists and must be honored, Gino Odjick and Tiger Williams (whose number Pat Quinn wanted to retire). I have some more names that deserve serious consideration but those four guys should be looking down at the fans every game. With the caveat about making sure Tiger is good to go off the ice, as he has been the subject of one or two lacklustre stories. Popular Post -DLC-
He's fighting his toughest battle ever but, just like in round one, he'll KO this thing. He's just too good to be gone...we need Gino on this earth. These pictures were from the gathering when he first was hospitalized and so many showed up to support him and send good vibes. He actually waved out the window at us all and then had someone actually wheel him outside to the road in his wheelchair so he could "greet" everyone in person. One of the last Lions' games I was invited to I couldn't go...Dad needed me for the day. I learned, later, that my seat was going to be right beside Gino (my friend is friends with his good friend). He took a picture and sent it to me and I was heartbroken that I'd missed the opportunity....but, family first. I hate to hear that he's back in another fight but just know he'll get through it. 7 2 1

That's a good story. Better than the story I told a while back about hundreds of cars driving to the airport in 1994 when the Canucks came back after Game 7 and we all got directed into a field by a bunch of cops scared after the riots and all we could do is kind of honk our horns from a mile away in some cornfield while the little dots in the distance known as the Vancouver Canucks kind of looked over confused at the noise for a second and then shrugged and went home. Then all of us just kind of shrugged and went home.

Roger Neilsons Towel
Very sad to hear that his ailment has returned. He’s beat it before with the same treatment and I’m confident he can do it again. You got this Gino. We’re all behind you 100%.
