Lightning takes on something to maximize its space. It's pure cap circumvention. Meanwhile, we're stuck with a Luongo retention + Ferland LTIR. well Tampa is still paying Lecavalier 1.7 every year for compliance buyout after the lockout. still 6 more years left of that 1

And why do people keep saying Tampa is only doing it to save money? They are literally the only team in hockey right now who are using this loophole year after to year to legally circumvent the salary cap. Kucherov was on LTIR for the entire regular season yet he was healthy enough to be ready to go for the very first game of the playoffs and was the best player in the entire playoffs along with Hedman. He even mocked his adversaries by wearing a t-shirt saying “$18 million over the cap”. We are not that stupid folks. seabrook ain't pulling a kucherov. so no space will be gained. I don’t think you understand how LTIR works. Johnson’s contract would have counted against the cap. Seabrook will be put on LTIR which means Tampa can EXCEED the cap by the amount of his contract once they reach the cap on opening night. It opens up almost $7 million in cap space. It has zero to do with saving money on an insured contract. 1 3

Master Mind
First Seattle takes Gourde instead of a cheaper player like Colton or Foote. Now Chicago takes Johnson without making Tampa overpay. I thought it would have cost at least a 1st to move Johnson (in similar fashion to Toronto with Marleau). GMs could have hurt Tampa much more, but chose not to. Many questionable decisions being made around the league. 2
