Wonder if the " It's only pat brisson, Jp has nothing to do with this negotiation "  crowd will choose to keep their horse blinders on for this quote :P

Funny how their agent is trying to sell that this deal could've been done earlier, thus putting the delay on Benning. If this were remotely true, it would've been done after the OEL trade. Clearly they were trying to capitalize/pressure the Canucks into either creating the cap space or utilizing the max of what we have to get them signed. At the end of the day, Benning just went on with his business and starting filling out the roster depleting the cap space available knowing these RFAs would have to sign or sit. Quinn couldn't be given an offer sheet and the EP offer sheet rumours were clearly driven by the agents.

So yes the deals could've been done if these were the numbers presented much earlier. Benning waited them out (as he has done for many RFAs before) until he got the numbers he wanted. Benning is fair and doesn't low-ball (as seen in how he handles his trades to try and make both sides happy to keep positive relationships), but he (along with the management team) knew what numbers they comfortable with and waited for them to drop. That's how it looks like to me at least.

Someone needs to post that photo shop of JB with the sunglasses and cigar haha

Okay.  So in three years we (very likely) sign Petey to a long term deal more than that anyway, no?

Benning did great!

Unless something goes terribly wrong with EP, his next contract will be over 10M/year...

Great deal by Benning.
