5 years?  That's mighty optimistic, considering the oilers are still mid pack

How late no did it take the Avs to deep dive (by doing exactly what many here are calling for) to win the Cup?  Pretty much the only way to win a Cup is to deep dive.  And that’s a non arguable fact.

Add Lysell and Bedard to this team and he can become a 99-point player again.  I'll even take 90 points really...

So it's just that simple to make Miller awesome again. Add a generational #1oa player. Well that sounds like a well thought out foolproof plan.

Agreed.  They got rid of ROR and Duchene.  Fluked their way to get Cale Makar and now they are cup champs...

Another unbalanced construct.  They would have been contenders long ago if they were constructed better.....honestly, good goaltending alone could have done wonders for them.

Yes, 5 years is optimistic to be a playoff team, but doable when you have QH and a decent goalie (if he's still decent then) and still a few decent options left on the team.

If you manage to keep the EP line together, QH and get good goaltending, and traded Miller, Pearson, Brock, Bo, Hogz and Garland for picks and prospects, it's conceivable (with our picks and cap space used as a tool as well), that you could land 2-3 excellent young Dmen in the draft and a couple of centers.  Maybe in there you get a D prospect that overdelivers.  Creating a shutdown line and a fourth line for energy can be done as free agents and picking up scoring wingers is also easier to find / develop than D.  Very doable but the key is to have top end D players making regular or ELC pay......not $7-8M/yr.

Either way you look at it, the road to the cup is longer if you don't strip this club down in a big way.

And stole Kadri from the Dumbass.  But they started with the first OA in Mac and still figured that wasn’t good enough so did another deep dive.  That’s clearly what we need to do.  Sure, it migh5 not be successful.  But being stuck in the middle like we are now is a total SUCKEROO

That is my fear.  He already is a point a game guy in the AHL at 19.  Come on JR, wake up from your nap and get er done.

To Boston:

Bo Horvat

Luke Schenn

To Vancouver:

Fabian Lysell

Trent Frederic

Brandon Carlo

2023 1st round pick

Heck I would even take out Carlo to do that deal to be honest...

Throw in Rathbone. Get another pick.

Isn't Ondrej Palat 31 and already on LTIR with 5 years left on his contract at $6 million?

4 years left after this season.  Expensive deal too.

Hard to find the perfect fit in any trade / signing especially in free agency.  Teams have to often make concessions to get what they feel they need.  Per Fitzgerald they felt it was essential to add someone with Cup winning pedigree.  NJD was very low in the standings last season and weren't going to attract top UFAs without paying the price and/or adding some term.

Fitzgerald was just talking about how it changes a team to bring in guys who have that kind of playoff experience / success where they expect to win and losing is unacceptable.   Last season some players were giving up on plays early and didn't always push themselves so they felt it was important to add Palat/Haula who come from winning organisations who demand to be in the post-season.  Was talking of how it changed the room and the professionalism.

Well we can’t make the playoffs with this lineup so any move will help now

I hope for rebuilding moves too.  But IMHAO our owner will insist on trades being for players to help now instead of futures. This was kind of a theme on 650 today.  About how our owner insists our trades are for players to help now.
