Something I keep wondering: Smyl is made Interim GM and states with FA that they're going to take their time and how proud Smyl is to be part of the process to help find the right people, but then JR is hired quickly after and Smyl is out.

This doesn't seem weird to anyone else?

Reading between the lines though ...

It was reported that they will be looking for someone to mentor under Rutherford.

McPhee or Lombardi don't need mentoring. Could be someone younger.

I'm still hoping it's Gillman.

Also unrelated to your post, but I hear a lot of complaints about Rutherfords age, Lou Lamorello is I think 6 years older than him so it is what it is.

So far we have hired the 2 best available guys for their job imo, in JR and BB.

That’s half right.

They’re looking for Rutherford to mentor the next POHO as he’ll be done after three years.

Speculation is that he’ll be grooming the Sedins for that role.

This was said so people don't panic by the power vacuum and prolly they pounced before Rutherford changed his mind etc.

Aqua flew personally to Raleigh to convince Rutherford and prolly they were waiting for his decision.

No not at all. The quicker you turn the lights back on in the front office the better. Smyl was never going to be the guy so dont put him in the big boy chair and point cameras at him.

No, I think they made their decision that JR was their guy a while ago and he was just towing the party line with the rest of the organization until the deal was finalized

Smyl although good guy is more suited to advisor role he never had the experience for poho and plus to change the culture you got to bring someone with winning culture. Smyl has been part of the canucks losing culture of 50 years with all due respect to him how can he change the culture. They saw Rutherford was interested and immediately went after him.

So us fans are going to continue being lied to? I'm personally tired of not being told the truth. If JR was your guy for the last week and a half, say so. Don't say you're going to take your time if you've already made the decision.

Maybe Rutherford needed time to make decision so they were not 100% certain.

They should've announced JR as their guy before he was signed?

HF also had a real stiffy for hiring Gillis as president. I took a wander down there yesterday and it was...bizarre.

The reason why they love Gillis is because Gillis positions himself as a "progressive thinker" that prioritizes advanced analytics (all GM's actually use advanced analytics to varying degrees but the boys at HF didn't get the memo on that one).

Basically, Gillis fits the image of what "The Athletic" tries to push onto its loyal followers (i.e. HFCanucks).   The Athletic also positions itself as 'forward thinking' and 'anti-dinosaur' and so that's why their cult-like following (HF Canucks) also love Gillis and were willing to overlook the fact that Gillis' amateur scouting was just as brutal as Benning's pro scouting.

This is awesome news.

We sorely missed a president and now we have one with cup pedigree.  We have respectable faces in the front office now.

Aquaman finally gets it.

We haven't had a regime like this since the Quinn Burke days, and now we still have to add one more piece for GM.

until the softness gets dealt with, IF and when it does, until then it doesn't matter who is at the helm, we're not winning a cup, maybe a great season if we're lucky and a quick bounce out or when we run into a tougher physical team.

Years of rebuilding, tearing down, rebuilding, over and over.

I WISH this wasn't reality but Vancouver wants a seasonal soft skilled team... all there is to it, only a few of us want more than that.
