thundernuts
Any one of us would gladly take 70k to play in the AHL. I see this as a show me deal. Hopefully, he plays well and can turn next years contract into a 1 way deal.

Elias Pettersson
Isn't $70k what most of our AHL players make who haven't sniffed the NHL?

Yes, don’t know why people are so surprised. Most AHL’ers make between 70-150k a year. 1 1

I remember visiting him for the first time. He took me to the pub. The one and only pub. It was a nice pub though. Maybe now they have two up there cause of all the boomers moving?

You will not be able to afford Creston either or any other East or Central Kootenay town. Our city Appraisals in our neck of the wood increased 21% on average. Got a lot of Albertan's settling here these days

Guys, this is not a misprint. It is a minimum contract, but minimum contracts are pretty common. I think his alternative is not having an NHL contract at all. He would know by now if any other NHL team would offer him a better contract and I am guessing the answer is no. If he turned down this contract he would be looking at trying to get an AHL contract. He probably could get more than 70K, but not much more. And not being on an NHL contract is a big negative. And if he left the Canucks he would not get the benefit of working with Ian Clark. I don't find anything surprising about this. Also, as the Canucks have signed Delia and as Skilovs has moved ahead of Di Pietro on the depth chart, his situation is not looking great. He certainly has zero leverage in any negotiations. Just adding one more point. He was an RFA and could not just walk away as a free agent. And he did not have arbitration rights. And he is waiver exempt. A guy in his position could have just asked the team to release him and there is some chance they would. But, like I said, he had zero leverage. If the Canucks had not given him a QO he would probably have gotten an AHL contract as an AHL backup. Edited July 17, 2022 by JamesB 1 2
