Horvat at 50% retained and Schenn at 50% retained might change this entire franchise around...

Horvat 50% retain = 1st + 2nd + top prospect

Schenn 50% retain = 1st or 2nd + prospect

Kuz 50% retain = 1st or 2nd + prospect

Beauty is that retention is only for this year as all have expiring contracts.  Would fill up the prospect cupboards pretty quickly.

Wishful thinking.  Probably cuz Xmas season.

:P

A 3rd sounds like a more best case realistic scenario and would still be a win considering the value given up to acquire him. I don’t mind playing hard ball if there’s a market but like…c’mon.

No. Schenn is a heart and soul leader that this team badly needs, and he loves Vancouver. We need his leadership and truculence for our young players. Keep him.

Right there with you, Roger. I’d first gauge his interest in staying with the team. If he wants to sign an extension, do it.

He’s one of the true leaders on the team along with Bo and Elias.

to NYR - Schenn and Hoglander

to VAN - Schneider

NYR would have the cap space, which wouldn't take much, and they'd get a much tougher, playoff seasoned beast in their 3rd pairing. With a 1-2 punch of Schenn and Trouba on the backend, the Rangers D could be very difficult to play against. The Rangers may want to re-sign Schenn as well, for future playoffs.

Canucks would have years of Hughes - Schneider, and could build off that.

They wouldn't do it for Miller.  They aren't doing it for Schenn and Hoggie

Here is just the last 2.5 years worth of wtf trades GMs made

2022, Rakell for Reese, Simon and a 2nd
2022, Copp and a 6th for two 2nds a 5th and Barron
2021, Lashoff for a 1st and 3rd.
2020, Skej for a 1st
2020, Martinez for two seconds
2020, Coleman for Foote and a 1st
2020, Zucker for Galchenyuk, Addison and a 1st

Do I think we will?  Not giving an opinion on that.  Will I be shocked if he does?  Not at all.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit either.  The reasoning is because of the extremely low cap hit.  A player like Schenn would be extremely valuable for a contender.  Tough as nails, has shown he can play top 4 minutes if need be, and a true leader with Stanley Cup experience.

Now if Schenn were making $2.5M, then no way... but he's making $850k!  He can fit into the roster of any contender = bidding war.

31 year old David Savard (and journeyman minor leaguer Brian Lashoff) cost Tampa Bay a 1st, a 3rd and a 4th in a 3-way trade last deadline.

A lot depends on Schenn’s ask for his next contract, assuming (and it’s a fair bet) he’d like to stick around in Vancouver.

At his current rate, he’s one of the best bargains in the league.

He’s continue to be good value at a reasonable but still modest raise. However, if he’s looking for a big jump in salary, then I’d say it’s best to get some value while we can and move him at the deadline.

Of course, we could also trade him and then try to re-sign him in the summer. I’d love to see Vancouver finally on the right side of one of those deals. Keep the player but rent him out briefly for a pick.
