[Rumour] Canucks getting calls on Thatcher Demko

Move him to Minny for Walstedt and Dumba

The Wild don't need goaltending.

Wallstedt is already considered their future number 1.  They are so confident in him that they've already reserved his NHL number.  Gustavsson typically wears 30 but they've refused to give it to him because they are keeping it for Wallstedt.

Demko hasn't had a great season.  He's also coming back from injury where they initially projected he would be out 6 weeks - it's been now longer than that.  Those teams don't have Ian Clarke - goalies don't often easily swap coaches.   Doubt they manage to move him this TDL.

GMs can call all they want. Management said no to a rebuild so there's no way we deal Demko, unless we get an oustanding deal.

He might be the one wanting out.  There's been rumours earlier that a high profile player wants to move on.

With how Rutherford kept on going on about how they got one of the most important pieces to contend in Demko, this would seem to suggest that it's not their decision.

To NJ: Demko

To Van: Johnsson (expiring cap dump), Nemec, 2023 1st

Something around that.

a D+1 2nd overall pick that hasnt turned 19 yet? and a another first on top of that?

fleury was traded for a second... Nedeljkovic was traded for the rights to backup bernier and a 3rd... ottawa gambled on murray and was traded for a second and a journeyman 4th round pick prospect. schneider was traded for the 9th overall who was hands down a better goalie than demko is now. Luongo was traded for a very promising goalie prospect and a aging grinder....

and demko is getting traded for the second overall and a 1st.....??

Demko = Schneider from 2013

So basically the return should realistically be anywhere from 7th overall to 12th overall.

But nobody will trade a lottery pick, so that  trade will either happen on the draft floor or be a 2024 top-5 protected pick.

Otherwise your looking at à A to A- prospect + bits and pieces

Could the high profile player be Horvat? I can't tell from the timing.

Him and Bo came up together too

Now that Bo's been moved I could see that contributing to Demko being open to a change of scenery

Schneider was more established. Didn’t have the extensive injury history, and wasn’t coming off a season where he posted a sub .900 save percentage.  I don’t really think they’re comparable at all

Where are all the people screaming for a rebuild?  If you want to build a great team you kind of have to stink for 2 or 3 years, draft well and get lucky with a few good trades.

I think Demko is a fantastic goaltender and he's a rare commodity... but... he is WAY too good to allow a rebuild/retool/reboot/retread/restart/revamp/rewhatever.  As long as Demko plays well for the Canucks it prevents the neccesary bottoming out.

Trading both Horvat and Demko would be a 5D chess, elite level stealth tank.
