Anybody on the ice knows that he can fight and that it won’t likely go well for them if it happens. We need that more than an enforcer which is not much of a thing anymore. 1

His D board work is intimidating. …. and get this ground breaking news sporto, we are cap strapped as a team , and he would probably sign for around 2 mil just to work with Gonchar and a larger RuZ contingency of players than what there was before. It’s an opportunity for player and management. How much are you willing to spend for our D core , and what type of player would that be? .. now you can dance. Never have I ever seen someone get overrated this much in my life. Has anyone mentioned that Dhaliwal said the Canucks have shown no interest in Tryamkin? That was in late March. Can't see much having changed in that time. Does this mean you wouldn't be on board with my new suggested title for this thread?: 1

His WAR is bad (penalties, offense, ice time) but his EV defense his second year was at 50+ percentile, and his PK at 45% (also likely improved) is good. So your eye test does match the analytics. Better defense, PKing, bigger, and more physical than Gudbranson at a far cheaper price. Plays how we wish Tyler Myers would play (although Myers should also be putting up 30-40 points at his salary). Tryamkin is not a top 4 guy but I'd love to bring him back as a 6/7 as he can play both sides. Maybe split time with Wolanin if Hirose goes to Abby or can just flat out replce Myers Edited May 4, 2023 by canucklehead44 2

Former defender of "Motorist" Nikita Tryamkin does not comment on his future. - I'll say this: I'm not negotiating with anyone in Russia yet, - said the hockey player. - It won't be fair. I'm waiting for a call from across the ocean, but I confess that I'm not going to wait long. And if it doesn't exist, I'll instruct the agents to look at the Russian options. It should be noted that in both the KHL and the NHL, Tryamkin is an unlimited free agent. This season, the 28-year-old defender scored 11 (2+9) points in 64 regular season matches. In the NHL, he played 79 games at Vancouver and scored 11 (3+8) points.

This is when he was actually two years younger than Hirose is now. 3rd pair is the floor for him if he never improved over the next 6 years, but that is unlikely and he likely is a 2nd pair D now. He could actually pair nicely with Hirose on the 3rd pair and potentially work up from that to maybe pair with Hronek or OEL. I think he gives us a lot of lineup options and flexibility if we bring him back. He's right in his prime as well, so it lines up nicely. 1
Popular Post *Buzzsaw*
A lot of people look at his somewhat unimpressive stats in Russia and forget one important factor. The ice surface in Russia is much bigger... International size rinks. Big defenders like Tryamkin get a real multiplier in effectiveness when they play on a smaller ice surface. Suddenly the area they have to cover is much smaller, and disadvantages with a big D-man's ability to turn are reduced... because there is so much less ice room to get around them... they don't have to turn. Tryamkin can position himself 10 feet from the boards and still be close to hit a player who is trying to get past him. His stick and arm reach is 12 feet. And Tryamkin is not slow in a straight line... he is actually a very good skater... both forwards and backwards. If he can work with Gonchar and the rest of the coaching staff on his gap, then he will be effective. And all the questions about where he would slot into the lineup don't even calculate how big a factor he would be in terms of intimidation and keeping the opposition from mis-behaving around Hughes and Pettersson.... without a physical presence, every playoff team will take cheap shots at both our stars... plus Demko. With Tryamkin around suddenly the would be tough guys are looking over their shoulders and wondering how it will feel to get beat down by a 6'7" 265 lb monster. Remember what happened to Jamie Benn... he thought he could fight Tryamkin, and then found out that was a very bad idea... and to make matters worse, got an injury as a result which ruined a good part of the rest of his season. Just wrestling with a monster like Tryamkin can lead to pulled muscles, strained backs, etc... imagine if he falls on you and lands on your leg. NHL players know all this, that is why Chara got very few takers over his career and got away with his nastiness without any real penalty. 1 2 1

Also, people keep saying he is not a good fighter, which is pretty much irrelevant. The fact that he can hit you hard enough to break your leg should be a concern to anyone. He was rag dolling guys that were 230 pounds. I don't think anyone but a heavyweight would actually want to fight him. A smaller guy fighting Tryamkin could hurt themselves badly if he were to land a punch or simply rag doll them to the ice... Here is Tryamkin breaking someone's leg after falling on them, dude had to be taken off on a stretcher... 1 3

What about all the other swedes, finns russians, Slovakian etc... all moved to north America? Tryamkin might be good physically, bit mentally he's weak. I mean if Willie Desjardins and the smell of weed is too much for him how's he going handle the pressure of nhl? He couldn't make it through an entire season. If you've ever talked to scouts having good mental attributes are just as valuable as being big. Someone's gonna call him a name and he'll be on the next flight back home. No thanks, id rather save a roster spot open for someone mentally stronger Edited May 4, 2023 by DS4quality 1

Maybe split time with Wolanin if Hirose goes to Abby or can just flat out replce Myers Also worthwhile to consider how bad those Canucks teams were overall, which can negatively impact a player’s WAR and WAR percentiles. Looking at stats like team relative expected goals, Tryamkin’s results are much more positive. In his 79 NHL game sample (2015-16 through 2016-17), among Canucks defencemen, at 5v5, Tryamkin ranked 5th (out of the 15 defencemen who played games during those two seasons for Vancouver), with an xGF% Rel of +1.67%. His 5v5 xGA/60 Rel was 4th best, at -0.07. 5v5 xGF/60 Rel was 7th best at +0.08. Notable players Tryamkin outperformed (by expected goals; xGF%, xGA/60) during his time in Vancouver: Edler, Gudbranson, Sbisa, Stecher, Hutton. Only Hamhuis and Tanev did better (among the Canucks D “regulars”). On the PK, it’s a similar story. Tryamkin ranked 3rd (out of 15 Dmen) in xGF% Rel at +6.74%. And he was 7th in xGA/60 Rel at -0.58 (which was actually better than Edler, Tanev, and Gudbranson). Similar for PK GF% Rel (+6.25%, 4th best on Canucks D) and PK GA/60 Rel (-0.4, 7th best). 4
