Popular Post diesel_3
I still remember the day I signed up in April 2003! My buddy Brendon @BigBabe44told me about the Canucks forums and thought I would be interested in the 'Trash Talk' subforum to battle it out with Blues and Wild fans! It was great! I was only 17! I slowly immersed myself within the White Noise crowd. I always felt like I was on the outside looking in (kind of a theme of my life) and was never one of the 'main' cogs in any of those forums hierarchies. I posted a lot more back in the day. Like others...I found love/fun/heartbreak all within this forum, a lot of good memories I will have as a Canucks fan! We used to do full-fledged 'Meets' that would bring upwards of 20 members to a pub to watch a Canucks game and talk shop. I had a lot of fun at those! It is wild to think of just how much I changed as a person in the last 20 years. I joined the Army, used this forum to post my blog about touring GM Place and meeting a bunch of my Canuck heroes while being back in Canada for 3 weeks during my tour to Afghanistan. I have spent some of my darkest days at the butt crack of dawn on this forum reading threads and player profiles to try and keep the demons at bay. I have typed and deleted 'Goodbye' posts on here, for myself, or for nobody....because again, it's been one of the constants in my life the last 20 years. At the time, I had relationships with both of my folks, now, I am not in any of their lives. I have burned bridges on here and have a lot of regrets over some of the friendships lost through this website due to my behaviour.....which is why I became more of a lurker during the last 10 years, but I have still always enjoyed seeing old names posting to get that swig of nostalgia. I enjoyed the opportunity to help moderate as much as I can. I was nowhere near as efficient as the moderating team that everyone knows (i'm rarely mentioned in the same breath as the moderating team that people actually know) and that's ok...CDC was a great escape for me when I needed it and I made a lot of potentially life-altering or even life-saving decisions while staring at the colours on this forum. I have registered for the new boards, but again will probably just fade away into the abyss of anonymity. I think if anything, I would like people to know my inbox is always open. I have various lived experiences including incredible highs and lows and sometimes you might need somebody during a dark time and I can always lend a listen or offer some advice. You're worth it. Everyone is worth it. Thanks for allowing me to open up/rant. Cheers all. 6 1 13 3
kloubek
HIGHLY disappointed. Almost beyond words. I always thought this was something that most other teams didn't have that helped us be a community and feel like part of the team, of sorts. 1

I guess we can remove filters with this place shutting. Not that too many things were that exciting in hindsight. Was surprised that this place was still around when i returned last year. I'm sure the marketing team never loved the forum as it wasn't bringing in the younger demographic anymore. I'm sure the IT security area hated it too since it was older tech. But it was still a fun way to connect with fans from everywhere. All things end indeed. Edited September 16, 2023 by OldFaithfulCap c
Putgolzin
Very sad day. Most won’t recognize me because I don’t talk much, but signed up in ‘05 and am here literally every day listening to what you all have to say. Thanks to each one for making this such a wonderful place. Hopeful to see you at the new spot. 3

We were as far as I was aware the only officially team hosted message board in the NHL for quite some time now. Anyways, after well over a decade and thousands and thousands of posts here, I suppose there was always a point where it would end. Thanks for the ride y'all. I'm sorry I won't get to see this place rupture when the Canucks actually win the cup. I hope my obnoxious, low effort comments brought a smile to your face once or twice. If I offended you with them or we ever had hostility, I hope its all water under the bridge. I hope to see you celebrating somewhere when the Canucks finally lift Lord Stanley's Mug. Go Canucks Go I've also wondered if the admins and moderators were paid positions be it a salary or free tickets/merchandises. If they were compensated, then the cost of running this forum was probably a lot higher than just the costs to manage the servers. Like the poster above said, the forum didn't bring any revenue and couldn't justify the costs. CDC was a great source of Canucks news/rumours/opinions for two decades. There were some great opinions here, some really funny posts, as well as some terrible and biased ones (including myself here)... it will definitely suck to not have CDC. I suppose the forum wasn't growing. The forum members were probably mostly consisted of guys in late 20's to 40's, whose life evolved around the Canucks. And I noticed some older fans as well who added quite a bit of insights to the discussion (kudos to them). But younger generations, especially the casual fans, probably weren't accustomed to this sort of forum style discussion and even if they did join, they probably felt alienated and quit shortly after. Lately, with the team doing so bad for so long, the forum contributed to generating quite a bit of negativity around the team. In the view of the team's marketing department, this was probably hard to tolerate considering that it brings no revenue while having nonzero costs to maintain. I joined during WCE era, about to start my 20's. For a loner, this was an exciting place to be. Like everything in life, CDC comes to an end as I'm about to embark on my 40's and have a family of my own and a child. Canucks and CDC helped me through the difficult years during my 20's. Funnily enough, the team was doing great when I wasn't doing so good in my 20's (WCE and Sedin era). And when I started to get established in life and found happiness in my 30's, the team started to suck as the Sedin era ended. All the CDC posters, whether you agreed with me or not, thank you. Best of luck in life to you all. CDC was truly a special place. 2

kloubek
I just want to point out that some fans live outside the province. I've been a fan for 3 decades, but in 2000 I moved to Alberta for work. As one can imagine, trying to be a fan out here is a challenge when everyone is a stanch supporter of the Flames or the Oil. This was my link to other Canuck fans so I felt like part of the Canucks community from afar. So the question is: How long before I'm a Flames fan? With the help of CDC, I've avoided it for 23 years... 1

wai_lai416
too bad.. this is a terrible decision by the canucks imo this forum keeps the fan engaged and discuss about the canucks to keep interest up whether it's positive or negative. especially when the team sucks and the season ends in april every year. having a friendly discussion or having a fiery arguments with others during the downtime or the days off keeps thing interesting. i'll admit while being a season ticket holde for 10 years now i rarely go to the games in recent years except for the games with decent star powers from other team and end up giving most of my tickets away to friends for cheap.. and i can hardly watch a game on tv from start to finish because the canucks are so depressing to watch in the last 10 years.. now that cdc will be gone.. any games that i don't go in person i'm sure i'll probably end up just watching highlights since there's no where to discuss the game anymore lol so it really doesn't matter how they played other than if they win or lose.. oh well... end of an era.. it's nice to be arguing with ppl or agreeing with people here.. i don't hold any grudge or hate towards anyone except for a few that love to resort to personal attacks when people don't agree with them lol. i love the arguements and discussion it's entertaining.. maybe one day we'll have a new forum that's as lively as this one was.. Popular Post LeanBeef
Very sad day. I wasn’t the most active poster but I would say I spent at least 75% of my days in the last 14 years checking this forum minimum once daily. will definitely miss this site, which I’m gonna be honest, really brought my Canucks fandom to another level. From typing angrily in the Hodgkin for Kassian trade thread, being just as sad as everyone in the finals GDT, making people laugh with random comments in game threads, reading one dude get called out in white noise for posting a fake gf photo, asking vintage for a sig, seeing Deb tear someone a new one for slandering Burrows, or another one of Heffys hate posts on Lucic…. I’ll miss it all. As crazy as it sounds for myself, I’m currently involved with the Canucks organization and ever since then I’ve kind of distanced myself from the forums… but if it wasn’t for CDC I would not be in the position I am today…. From clicking the prospects section to being able to now work with those same guys… it’s just surreal. you may not have all seen me around, but I want to thank every one of you for making my CDC experience what it was. 1
Popular Post IBatch
Before reading anyone's posts, just want to say, what a terrific journey it's been sharing with you all. Special shout out to my brother, the biggest Canuck fan I know. His love of the Canucks and hockey got an analog fellow like myself, onto the forum and eventually joined. Appreciate all of you, and am very grateful to have the added value it's brought watching and discussing the sport. Lots of personalities on here. Going to miss discussing hockey with Biestra, Elias Petterson (thanks for the big trip down memory lane this summer with the Gretzky thread), those folks out in small town BC you know who your are, Smithers Joe and all the elders who's wisdom i've always sought in the real world about players I only heard about play. Spook007 and other fans far away, whose input i've enjoyed almost daily the past decade. And special gratitude to the moderators, Deb especially, keep ringing that cowbell!. AJ for your interest in hockey history, those time consuming threads were a lot of fun, and thanks for the effort and time you provided all of us those summers. Vintage for being a computer. And so many others. Even the "bad" ones. A guy/gal named the Gaurdian, who's devils advocate position around our re-tool might have been over the top in the way it was presented, and some others on this site today, keeping it real. Don't like to hear it but at least the site wasn't Vanilla. Some kids who made it fun posting 20 threads in a couple days. Nice to see those balls. HKSR. Recently BobLaw adding WAR cards ... Characters like Alflives. Too many to bring up, apologies for missing a bunch. What a wonderful colourful bunch of fans, thanks everyone, for sharing your ideas and thoughts and hockey memories. Dannydog
Well, what’s the chances this forum gets a new start. With the amount of time vintage, SN,AJ, DLC, and all the others behind the scenes put into CDC that a renamed version can be created? Even a small monthly subscription rate to help start and run the new web site. Just have to keep it the same, not commercially run . I very much enjoy the conversations on CDC and the instant trades and news information. I never thought CDC would ever get shut down.
WHL rocks
What? Why? This sucks. I've been coming here to read posts and get up to date on Canucks more than any other media ... I'm going to miss this place. Thank You SN For starting new forum. Looks pretty good. See you all at SN's new forum.
