messier's_elbow
Very talented guy. It's a worthwhile gamble. Jensen is pretty much done here now and Vey is on notice.Jensen is done? Your pretty knowledgable huh?
DeNiro
Jensen is done? Your pretty knowledgable huh? Apparently Vey is "on notice" too... Better let Willie know cause I don't think he got Jack Fig's memo.
Ossi Vaananen
(1. Horvat - graduated, but included in some lists) 1. Virtanen 2. McCann 3. Baertschi 4. Clendening 5. Corrado 6. Gaunce 7. Jensen 8. Kenins (graduated?) 9. Shinkaruk 10. Cassels HM: Demko More viewing pleasure (he has some brilliant plays in the back half of this video):
JeremyCuddles
I love Baertschi and I firmly believe we got a real steal here. Guy wanted out of Calgary. And he has history with Travis Green. Could reignite his development. Not drafting a player of Sven's potential in the mid to late 2nd round. Great deal for us in my opinion.
nuck nit
Yeah Baertschi will become a Gaborik or Kane. How about a serviceable player capable of surprising ? Do any of these second rounders seem capable of that?: 2008-Sauve 2009-Rodin 2010-none 2011-none 2012-Mallet 2013-none That was the Gillis record , providing for the Canucks future. Benning secures a former first round pick that may be able to fit in the lineup ASAP. He has does not have to be Kane or Gaborik as Kane was a first overall pick and Gaborik was a #3 overall pick.Unrealistic comparison, much. Sbisa,Clendenning,Pedan,Tryamkin,Vey and now Baertschi makes six players all 25 years of age (and younger) that have enough talent to play on the roster right now. That makes them assets available to play or trade. Benning is the 'retool on the fly' GM.
DeNiro
It's cool that we have another Swiss player on the team in Sbisa. Weber too if he's here next season (World Championship teammates). That should help with a little familiarity at least.
oldnews
GMJB went out and got a guy that Green knows and wanted - and who he himself said he considered the best junior in the country when he was scouting. There's another step towards solidifying the integrated teamwork of the Canucks management group - and while a lot of people around here try to paint a negative on the fact the JB has acquired guys that WD knows and wants, how can anyone here honestly argue with the results thus far? More commitment on these boards to pissy complaining than there is to critical evaluation imo. Likewise, Green has done an excellent job with Utica - GMJB got him a player, (actually two including Conacher), that gives Green a better shot at a Calder, not to mention what Baertschi could do for the Canucks once he ripens in this system. A good day of work for the management group - and some excellent spending at an extremely reasonable price. What more can you ask for, aside from irrational and childish expectations of guarantees? Bobby_Lu1ngo
Here is my opinion of what went wrong and I really don't feel its Bartschi's fault. Furthermore why I believe he will thrive in our system and reach his potential. Bartschi is an amazingly talented and exciting player to watch. Very much like Shinkaruk. At the time of his draft Calgary had come down a peg from quite a few successful years they had previously. Much like the boat we were in the year we drafted Horvat and Shinkaruk. Because of that success Calgary had not had a Top prospect like him to be excited about in a long time just like when we drafted shink. They were on the side of the coin they needed to move out some vets and rebuild but maybe took a year or two longer than they should have to start it. ON top of that Bartschi came in guns a blazing offensively creating more excitement. Just like Shink. Crowned jewel and future hope. There was a lot of pressure being the lone shining star of a prospect but the team now moves out their veteran leaders like Iggy and Jbo who set an example. The organization hadnt had a prospect like this in years and didnt know how to develop him at the right pace. Clearly he needed time which became more of a let down and impacted the hype. The same impatience our fan base is trying to put on shink. Imagine being a young man needing seasoning but being expected to be top notch immediately. It can really blow up your confidence. You feel you are doing good producing .35 pts a game but its seen as not good enough. so he is sent back to AHL to play with a pile of B and C level players on a different level than him. He is a playmaker he has no top end scorers in abby to match his level of creativity which reflects his production. next two years flames are terrible and get high end prospects. Newer and shinier like monahan, gaudreau, and bennett filling the skill roles. These guys are top notch and deservedly should be higher rated. Its not a knack on Bartschi or that he fell off but more so pushed to the side. He has been totally under-developed due to this and confidence shot. Prospects like Sven take time which should have been recognized and embraced. Now he is coming to an organization with a fresh start and familiar coach that will get hia confidence back in no time. He can slide in a just be himself and a good player. Drop the baggage and fit in with our great youth movement in utica and vancouver and not have to be the shining gem because we already have those guys. I have total faith this is going to be a great fit for Sven and he will regain his swagger. We will be happy with this trade 2 seasons from now. Noseforthenet
Jensen is done? Your pretty knowledgable huh?Waivers next season for Jensen and he isn't quite ready yet. Plus the forward depth is way too large right now. To fit Baertschi, Jensen, (and possibly Virtanen if he's ready) we would need to trade out 2 more vets for sure. That's how Edmontons are made. There's no way Benning is putting 3 more inexperienced players into the lineup. 1 for sure. 2 is a stretch. 3 isn't happening. Sedin(nope)-Sedin(n/a)-Burrows(nope) Higgins(unlikely)-Bonino(n/a)-Vrbata(nope) Kenins(unlikely)-Horvat(n/a)-Hansen(unlikely, more likely than Higgins) Dorsett(Ufa, only prospect who could fit this spot is Virtanen)-UFA(n/a)-Kassian(could be) Vey(could be, don't want Jensen, Virtanen, or Baertschi in the pressbox). Theoretically room could be made, but it wouldn't be good for the team just yet. So Jensen may just be the odd man out.

Size, decent speed , great shot. Has also learned a 2 way game this season. Plus he's a right wing so what does that have to do with the new guy? Visp
Sbisa is Italian.. No he's not. Luca is Swiss with Italian heritage. In the same way that other players are born in one country but play for and grew up in another. He plays for Our national team, talks Swiss German fluently and has a Swiss English accent. Really nice guy too!
