Focht got 56 pts in 61 games, at the same age Cassels got 81 pts in 54 games. Those offensive stats are horrible coming from the CHL at that age. Maybe he's an elite defensive player at least?

I watched a lot of Carson Focht this year and he was very noticable for the right reasons. I don't think he will ever be confused to have the same offensive prowess as a Jonathan Toews like Kuzma projected him to play like, but he has the offensive smarts to contribute some offense. Stylistically his stickhandling and skating is much like Jared McCann, very slippery and agile, while having that scrappy personality (minus the chip on the shoulder). Different between him and Cassels is Focht is by far a way better skater than Cassels was. Cassels had a lot of issues with his overall acceleration and foot speed. Focht has tons to spend for shifts on end. Its tempting to look at his points and easily look away. He played a much more mature two way game which came at the cost of his offense. He was often killing key penalties for the Hitmen and often out on the ice to protect leads. People seem to think either its top six or bust for prospects, which is not really a fair expectation to have. Carson Focht is not going to put up prolific numbers but he could turn out to be a very servicable bottom six forward who has the capacity to put up some decent points. I would project him more of a winger than centre to be honest. 2 1 2

The report I heard on him was his motor never stops running. It’s his work ethic they’re enamoured with. Touch of skill too. Cassels played on a stacked Oshawa team, that won the Memorial Cup. Focht plays for a Calgary team that was fighting to hold a wildcard spot in the WHL when COVID happened. Different teams, different leagues, different eras... no real comparison. Or do I need to bring up Dane Fox?

LOL Mr. Fox was an overaged point getter playing against 16 and 17 year old................Not a lot of upside......but he did get everyone stirred up (LOL) No, we are in agreement! Getting a quality 4th liner who works hard is good value for that slot. Developing good role players internally helps us save money and assets to keep building our core.

stawns
ONe thing about Benning, Green etc is that they place as much importance on the bottom six as they do the top 6. So, this kid could be looking at being a Beagle-like player at some point and the org will probably be put a lot of resources into developing him into that kind of player and he doesn't have a lot of competition from within the org for that spot.
Noble 6
I made that McCann comparison a long time ago. I'm glad it's sticking as I really can't think of a better one. McCann has an incredible shot though. Edited July 26, 2020 by Horvat is a Boss
SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
The Athletic did an article on Canucks prospects comparables a while back, and they put Focht somewhere between a Vern Fiddler and a Darren Helm.

Those are both long time nhlers. I'm okay with that for a 5th rounder lol. At what point do we just trade all our picks to draft 32 times in the 5th round Edited July 26, 2020 by 73 Percent 2
