BB is going to sign a bridge deal of $2m for 1 year, with a nod, wink and handshake that next year he will get $12 x 8 if a 50 goal scorer, or $10 x 8 if 40 goals.

Who has improved the most so far?

The Toronto Maple Leafs are the top Canadian team - at 8.

They've improved the most so far this summer.

I love it.  Embrace the hate.  Well here comes the train Smurf Nation.

What will this team do in the Expansion draft, who do you not sign? It is no wonder this team is so bad, there is no fore thought or planning involved.

This is just untrue.   It's just that you are demonstrating zero flexibility where in the team is creatively changing the markers as things unfold.  In life you sometimes have to do that to stay from having stale, old ideas.  Especially when your plans rely on others.    Real time plans are what's necessary in this thing as the league and teams change.  Players become available as other teams face situations - you can't plan for that.  But you can take advantage of it.

Planning for the expansion draft should take place now, just in figuring out the number of contracts coming off the books, the number that are mandated to be protected and what having cap space could "buy" in the way of picks and players. If planned properly the "others" parts are prepared for, "Plan B" then "Plan C". If the goalie gets hurt there should be another one.

Planning also takes into account how to beat other teams and to do that management has to examine other teams, estimate strengths and weaknesses, watch video, PLAN how to win.

To get the correct pieces things like past injuries shold be taken into account, it is not just the optimum that a player brings on his best day but also what is the worst that could be expected of that player, again Eriksson, the best would be he scores 30+ goals and worst for him is, he is a pretty good checker and smart player not likely to hurt the team, but not worth 6 mil. So the good and the bad.

Ferland has had multiple concussions, posters think he will fight, his last fight Backes rocked him and he was on and off the rest of the season with "an upper body injury" and "if he feels good enough". While not a absolute that he will get another, although they are easier each time with a bigger effect, do you think they should take this into account? That would be "planning" ahead or jsut be surprised if it happens. More probable for him because of his history that merely breaking a knee.

This team cannot take advantage of anything because they have put it into a corner, no cap, no players others want, not enough to sign all the players, only draft picks to give up, the future player for the team. As Boston and the Rangers have shown, 3 1rst in one year is like three years of rebuilding, JB just gave Tampa a rebuild, top ten pick.

Pettersson and Boeser are not those two Oilers.  Our guys actually care about winning, and play both sides of the puck.

McDavid and Draisatl are great offensively, but they don’t play on the defensive side of the puck.

Well said, Alf!!

And this proves why "on paper" isn't guaranteed.

Really? Ours are better than theirs because they are ours and not theirs, only ours are better than anyone elses :D

Canucks signed a good Canadian kid today.    Strong work ethics and family values.   Character guy.

What an incredibly stupid way to frame this. Who cares if a guy has the worst "family values" and is a total dirtbag (as long as everything's legal...), if they perform on the ice, that's what matters.
