Gawdzukes
I wouldn't be surprised to see him click there. It's a Russian type of town. 1

I just assumed he would go to a team with at least 1 Russian but I don't think MTL has any ?!?! I would have bet $5 he would have signed with PIT, WSH or TBL

Would look good with Drouin, imo. I remember Ilya almost single handedly leading NJ to a Stanley Cup, hes not the same player but still valuable if used correctly.

qwijibo
No risk move. Montreal is currently missing Gallagher, Drouin, Armia, Byron. They needed some help. They even had to call up Weise. If he doesn’t work out it’s fine. It’s one season and minimal cap space
Toyotasfan
I thought he was holding out for a contender, not Montreal.

theo5789
Perhaps they will bring back Markov as well.
VegasCanuck
Wow, that's a BIG drop in pay. Shows how badly Los Angeles overpaid to sign an over aged player.
GB5
If Montreal can manage to light a fire under Kovalchuk's butt then I guess it is a good move. Not much at stake at least.

League minimum for one of the top goal scorers of the last two decades. He is on pace for 43 points on "a team like that".
