Now we can start to talk about what his plans are after this current contract!

Well hopefully. But given how things have gone the past couple years, I wouldn't be surprised if his Czech contract has some personal services clause that forces him to put in 100 hours cutting Vlad Kyhos' lawn this summer before he's finally allowed to come over to North America. ;)

Little bit of news today as Jašek officially becomes a free agent (in Extraliga and European leagues--we still own his NHL rights) and free of his contract with Trinec.

Looks like Trinec really wanted to hold onto him but Jašek preferred to pursue other options.

New coach Václav Varaďa seems particularly disappointed Jašek won't be sticking around (at least based on this terrible Google translation of a Czech article): http://hokej.cz/ocelare-opousti-sest-hracu-varada-pocita-s-polanskym-pomuze-bonk/5022866

"Before I came, I personally acted with him and I had an eminent interest in staying in the club. I told him I believed in his abilities. As a Tearin boy he should have a much stronger relationship with the club. I'm so sorry he decided to go elsewhere. But I made every effort to stay in Třinec. It's a free choice for an adult player, but it's a disappointment for me, "admits Václav Varaďa.

Interesting... at least if he doesn't come over to the AHL this season, he can hopefully get a shot with another Czech club that'll let him get regular ice time in the top division. Either that or in another top European league since he's played in Sweden before. But I'd still like to see him signed to an ELC. :)

Makes sense. He turns 20 in August. Time to sign him to an ELC and see if he can make the Utica team. I don't have high expectations but he was only 6th round pick. So it is time for the Canucks to see what he can do.

But maybe the Canucks are running out of contract spots. They must be getting close to the 50-contract limit.

Depending on who we re-sign we'll probably have about 5 more contract spots for next year.

Thanks. That should leave enough room for Jasek.

Yeah, there's definitely room. Just a question of where the organization rates him at this point.

I can recall old quotes from JB (and even some from Green) where they sounded high on Jašek. Hard to say if and how much that's changed now, both from Jašek's development/results and the changes to our prospects depth due to new additions.

But I'd say with a fair degree of confidence that Jašek would jump at any chance to come over, if he's either offered an ELC outright, or given reasonable assurances he'd get signed if he performs well through the camps, etc.

Jašek rumoured to be heading to Liberec (Extraliga):

Great to hear. Would've been exciting to see him sign an ELC and see how he does in TC. He's one of the kids I'm high on after his good performance in the WJCs for the Czechs. He probably would've ended up in Utica but at least he could use his time there to hone out his overall game. He's a pretty good face off specialist from what I learned and he can create plays as a C also while having the flexibility to switch over to W if needed. He's a kid worth keeping an eye on if we manage to get him signed
