Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the Canucks have recalled defenceman Ashton Sautner from the AHL Utica Comets.

Sautner, 23, has collected a goal and two assists in 21 games with the Comets this season. His +2 rating on the season leads all Comets defencemen while his 29 shots on goal ranks fourth among blueliners. In 118 AHL games over three seasons, the 6-0, 195-pound defenceman has recorded 19 points (5-14-19). Prior to his professional career, Sautner played four seasons with the WHL Edmonton Oil Kings registering 117 points (24-93-117) in 265 games. He helped the team capture the Memorial Cup in 2014.

A native of Flaxcombe, Saskatchewan, Sautner was signed as a free agent on March 14, 2015.

Tanev might be out:

Still though, Sautner ahead of Wiercioch/Holm? Even then you could make an argument for Chatfield/Brisebois.

Anyways, he gets to collect and NHL paycheck, while Biega likely slots in. Guddy should be close too.

Wiercoch has been on a ropes back and forth this season going up and down.  He needs games to stay in game shape.  Holm is just returning from injury and isn't cleared for contact yet as he was wearing a red practice jersey last practice.  Other than that Sautner is the only healthy Dman in Utica that has some good pro experience, and likely will sit in the pressbox.  No need to disturb Breezer or Chatty's rhythm down in Utica.

who knows, might even give him a look, as he has faired alright down in Utica, might even be a move to see whether they want to extend him in the summer or let him go.

The bad news just keeps rolling in. How does this team keep getting screwed by injuries year after year? What have we done to the Hockey Gods to deserve this?

Like a poster above mentioned I would be OK with this and the fact the bottom of the standings will be within reach soon if we weren't snakebitten in the lottery.
