[Report] Canucks recall Ashton Sautner

what we should be deciding, is what can we realistically expect from this roster between now in the end of the season?

wanting JB to move prospects out for player that can salvage this season?

or holding fast and wait till our future arrives?

you can't have it both ways.

if you trade your vets for draft picks, it won't change this year.

we could rush our prospects and maybe stunt their growths, or we can suck it up like the team is trying to do until help arrives.

JB can't just go to the grocery store and buy goal scorers, tough guys and front line players.  only cdc can do that.

It's a mess, that's for sure.

The only way that works is if the player being brought back is a long term addition. Adding a short term Gagner type player to this roster is just pointless. In fact, adding Gagner was.

Eyes to the future.

It's another gut punch that is upsetting Canucks fans who have been dealt their fair share of them over the years. I'd prefer that the season play out, and Benning do his best to move on from the past by not re-signing the remaining members of the old core, and focus on developing a true team identity, and getting players through the draft/FA/trades that fit that identity.

Fallin' for Dahlin.

The team has showed that they are on the right track. Being competitive with a gutted lineup and ending up in a lottery spot is almost ideal for the rebuild.

Move some vets at the TDL again for depth pieces in the coming years and boom rebuild over. Competing for playoffs next season. With a shiny new 1C and *fingers crossed* a 1D.

To be fair all of these injuries are a blessing in disguise.  If we had stated healthy we would have been a bubble playoff team.  It looks like we are about to fall to the bottom of the standings.  The decision to buy, sell or stay the course will be made for Jim and Trevor.  As painful as this is to watch again, its the best thing that could happen.  Now we know with a healthy team we can be competitive night in night out.  Add more talent and depth and we are in great shape for years to come.

Wiercoch has been on a ropes back and forth this season going up and down.  He needs games to stay in game shape.  Holm is just returning from injury and isn't cleared for contact yet as he was wearing a red practice jersey last practice.  Other than that Sautner is the only healthy Dman in Utica that has some good pro experience, and likely will sit in the pressbox.  No need to disturb Breezer or Chatty's rhythm down in Utica.

who knows, might even give him a look, as he has faired alright down in Utica, might even be a move to see whether they want to extend him in the summer or let him go.

Hey, logic! Nice explanation/rationale on the recall. I wondered when I saw the headline, but yeah...this makes sense

Tanev is awesome, but at what point do we trade him?

For what?? Do you honestly think that the other 30 GM's and pro scouting staffs don't know that Tanev misses an average of 20 games per season? No GM is going to give a 1st or an A prospect for a guy thats injury prone especially if they are acquiring him for a playoff run. At this point I'm not sure any GM would give up a 2nd.

Pretty sure any team that's making the playoffs this year would give up a 2nd for Tanev..
