Popular Post GoldenAlien
D | 6'0" | 180 lbs Shoots | Left Born | 1995-02-18 Birthplace | Calgary, AB, CAN Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed defenceman Josh Teves to a one-year entry-level contract. "Josh had an outstanding collegiate career at Princeton," said Benning. "He has good vision and playmaking ability and can contribute in all three zones. We're excited to see him play at the professional level." Teves, 24, led all Princeton Tigers defencemen in scoring with 20 points (3-17-20) in 30 games. The 6-0, 180-pound defenceman also ranked third on the team in shots on goal (74) and power-play assists (10). In 2017.18, Teves finished the season with 33 points (7-26-33) in 31 games which led all NCAA blueliners in points per game (1.06) and assists per game (0.79). In four seasons at Princeton (2015-2019), Teves has registered 85 points (16-69-85) in 126 career games. Prior to his collegiate career, the Calgary, Alberta native played one season for the BCHL Merritt Centennials, registering 33 points (5-28-33) in 57 games. College Hockey News reporter who followed Teves since he was a recruit: Last Word on Hockey: Quote Teves has put up three goals and 20 points in 28 games this season. Teves is a slick skater, with good speed in both directions, and excellent pivots and crossovers. This allows him to cover a lot of ice, and to play an effective two-way game. He can skate the puck out of danger in his end, as well as lead the rush on the attack. Teves also has very good playmaking skills, which he can use in transition, or in playing the point on the power play. He is strong positionally and has a quick stick, but must improve his size and strength to succeed in the professional game. From when he was a 2018 camp invite: https://www.vancourier.com/pass-it-to-bulis/better-know-a-2018-canucks-camp-invitee-josh-teves-1.23352116 Quote "Teves always had his head up, and whipped passes with both accuracy and authority,” said one scouting report. “You can easily forget that this kid is a defensemen judging by the way he skates and handles the puck.” Quote “He has already set the single-season assist record by a defenseman at Princeton,” said head coach Ron Fogarty. “He is a heck of a player and he thrives in what we try to teach.” What they teach is an aggressive, puck-moving style that demands defencemen skate well and join the attack. “We want the defensemen to jump up and provide a third wave of offense,” said Fogarty, and that fits Teves’s game to a T. “Our whole style is to jump into holes and create offense," said Teves. "We have been given a lot of space and opportunities, as defencemen, to jump into the rush and jump into plays. Obviously, playing with some pretty special forwards, they make it easy. If you give them the puck, they make you look good and it is a lot of fun.” While Teves has a dynamic offensive game, he’s also strong defensively. Princeton depends on him to shut down top forwards and play big minutes in all situations. “A guy like [Teves] has the ability to make up for others' mistakes and get pucks chipped out,” said Princeton goaltender Ryan Ferland. “He is great to have back there." JamesB
Thanks to the OP for putting some information together about Teves. I remember his existence from Development Camp, but I know nothing about him. After reading a few things (including PITB) it seems that he is an offensive puck-moving D-man. He is on the small side at 6 feet and apparently about 180 lbs (although sources vary). His numbers overall compare favorably with Stecher and Hutton, although his numbers were a lot better last year than this year. Part of that was because Princeton had a very good team last year and a very bad team this year. The Canucks are not signing him with the idea that he will be a career AHL player. They obviously think he has a chance to be good in the NHL. He is actually a bit like Quinn Hughes in his profile (and he also shoots left). Obviously he is a longshot but this is Judd Brackett's portfolio and Brackett has a great track record. If Brackett likes him then I am at least curious.

I actually thought he looked really good out there, even though he was one of the oldest players in that camp and playing against guys 3-5 years younger than him. Still glad we snagged him. What we see now, is what he is. Sure, he will adapt and learn, but he’s at his physical peak right now. Play the guy, and then dump him. I’m not at all hopeful this guy is going to be a player. Seriously, he’s 24!

Seriously, he’s 24! Have to disagree with you here Alf. He may be 24 but he's a late bloomer who's seen massive progression in his last few years. Your right about him being probably as physically mature as he will get but he has the chance to add some real value to our AHL club and be a very good injury call-up next year. If the Canucks cant get Edler on a two year deal then I feel like they may let him walk. Unless they plan to trade Hutton they have a lot of young LD players that are going to need/ be looking for spots in the next couple years. Hutton and Hughes will play in our top 6 next year and then Juolevi, Sautner, Brisebois, Teves and Rathbone could be earning spots in the next couple years. NickTheGreek
Meh, thanks to his track record I don't think I'll be getting excited over this signing. Benning better make a real legit splash in free agency and not some dud like Loui Does Nothing Eriksson. Panarin or bust
