We still are a heavily injury prone team. JT Miller is actually pretty durable - he played 82, 82, 82 and 75 games in the last 4 seasons. 1 1

That 1st is a hard pill to swallow. Not really. It's likely a 1st rounder in 2021 which gives us plenty of time to try and get that 1st rounder back.

Great player, good addition, brutal price . How can anyone really suggest jb negotiated well here ? Its laughable , hence the LOL "Great player" tends to cost you at least a 1st. in his prime very good contract ideal fit for your young best player. what exactly were you expecting for a conditional 1st a year or two into the future? There's a disconnect / contradiction between "great player" and 'brutal price' that you're not really bridging. and you havent taken a position and named any alternatives - so really, you're just doing the negative armchair thing without taking the chance of having to qualify your own ideas/proposals. when you're that certain and outspoken a critic, you'd think you'd put your own alternatives on the table to be tested? 1 1

Not only am I happy with the deal, I’m ecstatic that we have a GM that understands how to draft, develop, trade and turn a franchise around without thinking he has to screw people to make it. Miller has already outperformed the average first round pick in any given year. There is good reason to believe that he can get better. Check out hockeydb for stats by draft position. Below is a link for Miller's draft class. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2011e.html See how the quality drops off. What a year for TB draftees! Over, and over, and over. When it comes to name-calling, you need to take a look in the mirror. Speaking of, you might want to watch the profanity-laced names you're so cavalierly calling people; the mods aren't likely to take to them very well. 1

oldnews
I can't believe no one is talking about Mazanec. Does Tampa really want/need him? Or was he a roster spot we wanted/needed open before July1st? I need answers.

Hogpodz91
Question... since we have committed a 1st round to Tampa one of the next two years. Are we able to trade the 2020/2021 picks away? lets say we don’t make the playoffs this year and we get our lottery pick. If we trade that 2021 to a team it essential means they have to hand it over to Tampa trying to make sense of the whole thing.. if anything could clarify that would be great

Getting Miller as a linemate solves the root cause of your complaint. Now that I've had time to digest, I don't mind this deal. I think that's the point of contention. The initial reaction to coughing up a 1st when you haven't made the playoffs in several years is generally one of confusion, anger and disappointment, especially considering how out last couple of first rounders have turned out. People don't really take the time to digest things properly. They'll have a gut reaction to something, and rather than examine it from all angles, they'll hold onto that reaction and feed it as much as they can. People don't like to be wrong. I don't really understand why Tampa's cap situation is being brought up so much either. Firstly, their cap situation is irrelevant to us. Secondly, it's not all that hard to shed cap. What's difficult is shedding a particular cap hit, but all these teams in cap crunches right now? I'm willing to bet my left nut that they'll have their issues sorted out before the season starts. 3
