Odd.
I just want to say Ryan Spooner is not a bad player at all, he's a serviceable player who's a proven 40 point scorer. Last year was a bad year for him, and it didn't help being stuck with that awful Oilers organization. He didnt even play that bad here, just got lost in the rotation, we decided to play the youth more towards the end of the season, and rightly so. He's easily going to find a new contract. I can see Colorado taking him for depth perhaps. Boston could definitely use him after losing a couple of guys, and Ottawa might need someone to run their god awful PP, as well as needing to hit the cap floor, signing Spooner accomplishes that. Sutter was supposed to be, and was, durable right up until he came here, two tough years injury wise. Miller does make him more expendable. With him and Beagle taking those minutes our new-look top 6 should have lots of opportunities to score. flickyoursedin
How many years were left? I thought with the available cap space they’d just have him be a main contributor to the top 6 in Utica.

If he ends up with either Goldobin or Baertschi on one of his wings that line is not going to be effective - neither a scoring line and neither a defensive line.

Sutter is a highly effective shutdown, elite faceoff guy who can score 20 goals counterpunching in hard minutes. So many people around here that seem to have no idea of his actual value on the ice. He's nothing near a cap dump. And pencilling Gaudette into his role is premature to say the least. The team does not need to move Sutter - and if it does, it will be for a worthwhile return, or it aint happening. Master Higgins
This is a great move thats should make us optimistic for the extra flexibility, but instead i’m filled with impending dread.

IMO, Gaudette isn't ready for regular NHL duty yet.......it's unfortunate they had so many injuries last year because a year of top 6 ice time and responsibilities in Utica would have been excellent for his development. 2

Schaller would help Utica - and be serviceable depth in the event of injuries. No buyout necessary. Edited June 29, 2019 by oldnews 3
