[Buyout] Canucks buy out Ryan Spooner

Recommended Posts

I just want to say Ryan Spooner is not a bad player at all, he's a serviceable player who's a proven 40 point scorer. Last year was a bad year for him, and it didn't help being stuck with that awful Oilers organization.

He didnt even play that bad here, just got lost in the rotation, we decided to play the youth more towards the end of the season, and rightly so.

He's easily going to find a new contract. I can see Colorado taking him for depth perhaps. Boston could definitely use him after losing a couple of guys, and Ottawa might need someone to run their god awful PP, as well as needing to hit the cap floor, signing Spooner accomplishes that.

Come on....Sutter doesn’t belong on a list with those turkey’s after one bad season (especially where he was coming off an injury).

Sutter was supposed to be, and was, durable right up until he came here, two tough years injury wise. Miller does make him more expendable.

If Sutter has a comeback year tho it would be a big part of our success. When he's healthy he's a great shut down C. With him and Beagle taking those minutes our new-look top 6 should have lots of opportunities to score.

Depends who are his wingers.  If he ends up with either Goldobin or Baertschi on one of his wings that line is not going to be effective - neither a scoring line and neither a defensive line.

sendng Schaller to Utica saves a million in cap  - and he expires this year.

there is no point.

it does clear 2 for this year, and also a roster spot tomorrow if Jim has a pre-July 1 deal in the works where we need to take a contract.

Don't have the space for him or his cap hit. He is obviously a much more effective player. Not debating that.

Miller is here to play with EP.

Sutter is not in the same class as Spooner, Schaller - or even LE.

Sutter is a highly effective  shutdown, elite faceoff guy who can score 20 goals counterpunching in hard minutes.

So many people around here that seem to have no idea of his actually value on the ice.   He's nothing near a cap dump.

And pencilling Gaudette into his role is premature to say the least.

The team does not need to move Sutter - and if it does, it will be for a worthwhile return, or it aint happening.

IMO, Gaudette isn't ready for regular NHL duty yet.......it's unfortunate they had so many injuries last year because a year of top 6 ice time and responsibilities in Utica would have been excellent for his development.

Jeez I really hope that sending Schaller to Utica does not make him expire, that would be terrible...  :o

he has one year of term that expires this (hockey) year  - the buyout cap is no savings for this year, and would merely extend unnecessary cap into next season.

there is no point buying out Schaller - it's actually a very bad idea - unless this team were desperate for Utica roster spots, which is silly.  Schaller would help Utica - and be serviceable depth in the event of injuries.  No buyout necessary.
