BeefcakeBo
So excited for this signing. What a great pickup and a good contract. Benn plays with good energy, moves the puck well. Seems to be pretty clutch and doesn't seem to choke when it matters. Would not mind if we still bring Hutton back now for a similar 2x1 or 2x2. Edler,Tanev,Hughes,Myers,Stecher,Benn, is a pretty good looking top 6 D when healthy.

Let Myers and Benn take the heavy minutes off his hands. 1

Even last year Stecher was getting up there with 28+ min during the injuries. I think if we can balance the D out closer to 20min we will see less injuries for Tanev and Elder. With that group all those guys can safely play 17+ a night. Pretty curious to see how all the pairings end up shaking out. Probably going to depend a bit on who clicks with Hughes at camp. Popular Post TFerguson
JB nailed it when he got Benn done. I'm super excited about having him. Fan favorite in no time. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/ben-kuzma-b-c-bred-benn-chooses-canucks-instead-of-returning-to-canadiens Jordie Benn couldn’t temper his enthusiasm Monday. And it had nothing to do with Canada Day. The free-agent acquisition with a prior connection to the Vancouver Canucks — the undrafted blueliner attended training camp in 2008 after four seasons in the BCHL — signed a two-year, US$4 million contract with the NHL club to be a third-pairing fit. The 31-year-old Victoria native could have remained with the Montreal Canadiens, who offered the same deal, but the 6-foot-1, 204 pound left-shot blueliner wanted to test the free agent market. And when the Canucks showed interest, the chance to play in his home province trumped staying in the hotbed of hockey in Montreal. He ran the concept by his brother, Jamie, and the captain of the Dallas Stars offered some sage advice. “He told me to just go for it,” said Jordie. “I’m just ecstatic. There was definitely interest from Montreal and we talked early in summer and it was a good deal on both sides. But I wanted to see what was out there and I couldn’t pass up going home. “It’s pretty amazing being a kid growing up on the island and watching the Canucks all those years and now I have a chance to play for them. To be a ferry away from family was a no-brainer for me.” This isn’t just a feel-good story. Benn can play. He had 22 points (5-17) in 81 games last season and can bring bite to a possible pairing with Chris Tanev. He averaged 18:12 per outing in 2018-19, was first on the Canadiens in blocked shots and third in hits. His Corsi-For rating was 53.4 and Canucks general manager Jim Benning called it a timely addition because Benn is “a safe and steady guy.” “Benny was a great teammate,” added Canadiens winger Brendan Gallagher. “He’s very versatile. He’s someone we used all around our lineup and he competed every night. They (Canucks) got a good player.” Benn can play the left and right side, help the penalty kill and keep the opposition from taking advantage of his smaller and skilled teammates. “I can definitely play that roll,” added Benn. “We’ve got to give our forwards room and take care of the young kids and show them the ropes. If anyone really messes around, I can step in and take the brunt of it. I’m excited to do that. It’s amazing to step into hockey heaven in front of fans who know what’s going on.” And considering that 2008 camp cameo, this is the epitome of coming full circle. “It’s been a long journey, that’s for sure,” said Benn. “I’m pretty sure there’s a picture of me at that camp with no beard and zits all over my face. It’s pretty cool.” 2 4 2

blackpluto96
I was so excited to see this unbelievably reasonable signing of a local boy who provides the exact elements this team needs. After reading all his interviews and quotes, now I'm getting goosebumps just thinking having Benn on our team. This is a win-win for everyone. Well done JB! 2
48MPHSlapShot
I've softened on this signing since I was bitching yesterday. Good money, good term. An upgrade on Hutton. Defense is looking pretty rock solid now.

Having Myers for PK etc. Helps take Tanev out of the most vulnerable situations that have higher prospect of injuries. If Tanev is healthy he is a helluva defensive player. Having a period where he plays 85-90% of his games could change perceptions as to the risks involved in having him. For a team on a cup run, losing a key player on D or feeling they aren’t strong enough defensively could attract a late first pick.

*Buzzsaw*
I think the Canucks got the hometown discount with this acquisition. Good solid player who doesn't get injured and can fit in as a 5/6 D. I would not be surprised to see him have a career season playing with the Canucks. 1
