I guess you missed the playoffs where Barrie was an absolute beast and Gardiner was his usual distasterous self.

Its not just the move to aquire Barrie, over all the Leafs got softer outside there top 2 they have a terrible 2nd and 3rd defense pairings

Anyone think that Sakic wanted Barrie sent east? Any chance we could now get him from the leafs instead? I doubt other GMs saw this one coming. JB should get creative here and swing a deal. Tanev (50% salary retained) plus prospect for Barrie?

The Avs will be fine without Barrie, Kadri filling the hole in line 2 was the bigger move needed for them.

Also Kerfoot is a tad overrated here.

The Avs just barely squeaked into the playoffs.

You really think adding Kadri will offset losing Barrie? He’s a huge part of their team, and now they have to throw Girard or Makar into the deep end and hope they can fill that role.

They may end up being fine, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if they miss the playoffs in their first year without Barrie.

It's $11mil on 22 contracts so only adding one more, but have to figure Marner will be 8 figures unless they're doing some sort of bridge.  Ceci is also reportedly getting $4.5mil, same as Zaitsev.  Would think Kerfoot will get something similar to Kapanen and Johnsson.

Hmm forgot they still have Horton in IR retention this year which would free up 5.3m not entirely sure how the cap magic works with these perma injured players but I'm assuming they will be able to skirt around and get that 5.3m available.

so they still need to do some work on the cap but they aren't in as much trouble as i initially thought.

You're as full of sh*t as most blowhard reporters.

Ok, cap is staying the same next year. Barrie had no interest in an extension with Colorado.

The Leafs are desperate but have no cap space with a TON of holes to fill. Can't re-sign him even if they wanted to.

100% on good authority Barrie is going to FA

Reilly and Ceci and Muzzin and Barrie is a great top 4 people lol

its much better  top 4 than ours and and we have people willing to offer offer sheets of four 1sts and saying trading away 1st round picks for Miller is good for us.

If we had that top 4 we would already be planning the parade based on the above reactions.

Again, you have absolutely no insight or clue.

For all anyone knows the Leafs could flip Barrie at the deadline, or could trade someone else to re-sign him.

Makar and Girard will be fine Makar’s emergence and Barrie walking is why this deal was made. Simple 1 + 1 = 2

Their D is great now actually. Reilly and whoever and Muzzin and Barrie. That’s a lot better than ours.

No wonder you guys like Benning, you guys have a serious misguided view of actual talent lol

However one looks at it:

RIELLY - BARRIE

MUZZIN - CECI

DERMOTT - HARPUR

is better than

RIELLY - GARDINER

MUZZIN - HAINSEY

ZAITSEV - DERMOTT

i disagree

and am not in denial

no team that has true playoff aspirations

can contend without 8 dmen

injuries happen.. . nucks are proof of that

the leafs have no d depth

and they really do not have a legit starting 6

let's give it 40 games

and see how the leaf d gels

Agree, the Leafs are better on D but have a ways to go there.  They have a top 4 with 2 righties and 2 left but they are also weaker down the middle.  Fair trade off you might say but there's more.....

11 mil cap space remains with Marner (who wants it all), Ceci, and Kerfoot left to sign.  Something still has to give.  The stomach churns......

Two seasons for Girard and 10 games for Makar is an emergence?

There’s no guarantee he’s ready no matter how much people hype him. Same mistake the Oilers made for years by forcing their highly touted prospects into key roles.

This definitely has the chance to backfire on Colorado. They’re going to miss Barrie.

Would be funny cause we’d only increase our cap hit by 750000 get Barrie and Toronto gets something good out of it too.  Screw Sakic lol

You clearly weren't paying attention in the playoffs Makar is ready

The Avs have dynamic young forwards. Timmins & Makar + Bowen Byram to keep the puck moving up ice from the D to replace Barrie..

And with less defensive risk than Barrie. It may take a year but that's fine.

They got one of the leagues best 3rd line centres, really an absolutely ideal 2knd line match up centre.  He's not the ideal young captain Bo Horvat is?  And he is a sh!t. But he is not far behind talent wise. Might not even be far?  He is a two time 30 goal scorer, and has hit 60 points in the NHL. Only 15 months ago. Bo has only done one of those things.

You are under rating Kadri.
