Warhippy
Man....these goalies raking it in, becoming liabilities just a few years later. Glad we're developing a solid crop of net minders now 1 1
Coconuts
He just turned 25 a few days ago so at least they've got him being young, but damn. That's a big contract.
JM_
what a year to be a Russian goalie. Tampa has to move someone out for Point and also for 2 seasons from now when this monster contract kicks in. That extra 1st rounder will come in handy to move someone.....
Popular Post Drakrami
For 9.5mil, why sign him now? You are not getting a discount, overpaying even, better to wait and see what games can be played..

Quick last won the cup 5.5 years ago. He was 27. I really question these big contracts for goalies. But am happy we're only under a recapture from one for a few seasons

It is when you take into account that he’s 25 and plays in a state with really low taxes.
kacholu
Hmm all this money for goalies has me worried how much Marky will demand. If course he's not top 5 in league atm but still the AVV could be up there.

If he signed for 8M then I'd consider that a steal.

If he played here, Vasy would need 11.5+ to even come close to the same amount of money he earns there. It’s just brutal unless he can keep it up. Teams in higher tax countries/states counter this with signing bonuses that hardly get taxed. Teams have evened the playing field when it comes to this.

But he's not the 2knd coming of Martin Brodeur IMO. So few goalies play at an elite level for 6 or 10 years straight. See Jonathon Quick, a once fantastic goalie? I have a hard time justifying Vasilevski at $76 mill. I had a hard time justifying Luongo at $64 mill. A Vezina winner, $9.5 mill? Fine, 4 years! 2

Research it. Signing bonuses hardly get taxed. It’s a loophole to a much lower tax bracket. https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/seanpackard/2018/07/06/john-tavares-could-save-nearly-12-million-in-taxes-on-his-new-contract/amp/ Edited July 29, 2019 by grandmaster
