Is it really anything else but playoffs?  Some of these things are still exciting-like Q Hughes real debut and how the new kids on the block help the core, EP is always exciting to watch - and added toughness is absolutely up there too (no more Mathesons!!) .... 

 

TG continuing his emergence as one of the best new coaches on the scene is also an exciting side story - what can he do with a modest roster - he did well with an injury riddled lesser one the past two years...who will gain chemistry and who will fade out of the lineup?  What will happen with added troops in Utica and how will all our prospects develop - who will take steps (not sleeping on Lind)?    The culmination could very likely put us into the top three - and this is a team building towards playoff success no doubt...

Very excited to see are young guys improve from last season, Pettersson, Boser, Horvat, Demko, Virtanen,Stetcher, See Hughes for 1st full season..

See 5 new players, Myers, Miller, Ferland, Benn, Fantenberg...See Markstrom continue his great play, Pearson and Leivo ,Roussel take another step...

Must add Juolevi as he will be a key guy for this team for many years...He had 13 Pts in 18 games, avg 21 min ice time for Utica until injury last year..

So predict Juolevi, 21, 6'2  lots of skill will Start in Untica for 18-30 games and will get call up and Canuck fans will be so excited with his play.

So much to be excited about, we will be in playoff hunt and predict we will be 3rd in Pacific...

This team will be tough to play agains, Ferland running over D men opening room for Pettersson and Boser,.  The news additions will add so much to the core of team, Markstrom and Demko will be solid in net..

Go Canucks Go...

Its been a few years since we have had this excitement and anticipation for the start of a season.

Some of the things I am looking forward to seeing play out this season are as follows

 

1 Can the D actually be much improved? It should be but one never knows and injuries can hurt us here as always. I am hoping the reduced workload on Tanev and Edler helps keep them healthy but if one of them does go down we do have NHL options to take on the 1-2 role. Does Juolevi have a good camp? Do Edler and Tanev play over 60 games each? Can Myers be an impact guy? Do we have the depth here now to contend?  This is where the playoff question most likely will be decided.

 

2 Quinn Hughes. Can he become a solid NHL regular D man? I like everyone was excited by Boeser, Hughes and Petterson in 3 on 3, but its how Quinn handles the 5v5 play that will answer his value. If he can move the puck to the forwards in stride, jump into the play and not get caught, score a few goals off the rush and potentially help the power play that's a huge lift for the team. I know its a  lot to ask of a 19 yr old but those OT games last season show what he is capable of with open ice.

 

3 Can Markstrom have the same or better year behind the improved defense? Can he build on what was his best work of his career late last season.If he played that well with Hutton and Stecher in front of him what will he do with Myers and Benn?

 

4 How much impact do Ferland and Miller make up front? For the first time in a ,long time we actually have a top 6. Horvat Boeser Petterson Ferland Miller and either Pearson or Baerstchi are not horrible as a top 6.  There's some size, some grit and some play making ability there. I don't see a 100 point player in there yet, although Petey is the best bet if there is going to be one but there is definitely enough there to make a team have to look at both Petey's line and Bo's

 

5 What players get demoted to Utica. Benning has said they tried to get a trade for Eriksson and no one would bite. That's not good news as far as salary cap goes however it does clear the path for anyone suggesting Loui shouldn't be in the AHL. Goldobin if signed goes to Utica, but those are the easy ones. Who else rides the bus rather than the plane?

 

6 and lastly the most important, can we push for a playoff spot?I have said it and I will continue to say we are close to the playoffs, not just as a wildcard team. I think we have improved enough on paper to do some damage in our division. I think Vegas has stayed about the same but Calgary took a step back with their goal tending options and adding Lucic. We did ok against them last year anyways. I also think San Jose while being a big team their core has changed and  that affects a team. They will probably take a step back this season. Arizona has improved but so have we, who has taken the bigger step? The key in my mind is we have to take more points off the California teams to make the playoffs. We need to be 50/50 or better against them this season. We should be more competitive against the rest of the league all things being equal. Just get the season started.

Like others have said, I'm excited for the season to start. I feel this is the beginning of our window to the new era. We finally have a legit opportunity of competing for a playoff spot. I'm also really excited to see which prospects take the next step forward. 

 

Really excited to see Hughes. I think a lot of people are underestimating the impact he's going have. We're going to see things from him that we've never seen on our blueline before.

 

With Miller and Ferland added to the roster, I'm also excited for Roussel to get back into the lineup. He'll provide even more pushback and energy mid-season. 

 

So much to be excited about!
