Not a great deal or a poor one really. Just market value UFA dollars and term. Yeah people can say all they want but it would have been a nightmare to deal with all year.

Have to think another guy (Boeser, Garland etc) will have to be on the move/packaged at some point here for a RHD. This year is a show-me year for the wingers and depth dmen. I still, personally, feel like we're going to surprise people if the lineup stays as is, but someone with value will likely be the odd man out at some point, if the right deal comes along. 1

Fine for now, but the potential damage to the future has yet to be seen. The team will be screwed if he becomes a 50 point, or less, guy for those last 3 years. Sure they could dump him; but that is going to cost. yep that is the downside of this. But given where this team is at imo this is pretty close to a home run for 4 years.

With inflation doing it's thing, by 2027 eight mill a year for a 50 point center might not be unreasonable.

theo5789
Surprised it took this long to get this done. I would've signed this deal long ago. Both sides must've given something up to get to this happy medium.

As I said, ELC/cheap talent will get their raises, Petey will get his, other players will get increases, etc - this adds up. I agree they will rise and it's one of the reasons I wanted to keep JT and have him signed under this cap. Trying to replace him even as soon as next season would likely cost us more. Sure we gave up some term but who's to say the guy targeted to fill the void even chooses us? If we had a replacement internally, I might have been OK with moving him but we clearly don't. People will say we need to upgrade the D but doing it through UFA almost always sucks nevermind the fact there is seldom a youngish tip RHD hits the market and definitely not for fair market value. We have the option of trading for one with our Forward depth, especially if Kuzmenko becomes a legit player for us. Garland for Zub? Hogz+ for Zub or Severson? I do think this is a very key move for retaining our best talent, and attracting new UFAs over the next couple of years. Popular Post BobbyClarke
Awesome!!! This is the best possible outcome for Canuck fans. Instead of trading for a player we hope becomes as good as JT Miller, we actually have one. Drop the puck!!! 3 1
