-Vintage Canuck-
Scoop: Yes, it was just over a year ago that Ekholm signed a 4-year deal worth $25 million with the Predators, mainly to avoid a situation exactly like this one – where he is on the market. But Predators GM David Poile has some uncomfortable decisions to make as Nashville has regressed to a likely non-playoff team saddled with expensive, term-laden contracts. We’re told Poile is ready to consider moving Ekholm, and will have a few other cards are on the table. Could Ryan McDonagh also be available? McDonagh was convinced to waive his ‘no-trade’ clause to leave Tampa Bay, and that might be a tall ask this time around. And Ekholm doesn’t have any ‘no-trade’ protection in his deal. Buckle up on Lower Broadway.

Interesting. Verrrry interesting. On the one hand, 6 months into a 4 year contract with no protection and signed about 15 months ago. On the other an 8 year contract with heavy protection, signed 4 months ago, that doesn't start until July. For better or worse, JT will probably be in Vancouver for a while. Provost
I can actually see this as a move our brass makes. If you believed in our team, an Ekholm for Myers trade makes a lot of sense. He can play both sides and would be a very complementary partner that could fit with either Hughes or OEL and help our PK. Myers isn’t a bad player, but is a terrible fit on our top two pairs. We eat two extra years of term on a guy that is worth about what his contract is, so that should be worth a sweetener. Of course, I personally believe our team needs a lot of surgery and starting from scratch… so I wouldn’t do it. OEL-Ekholm Hughes-XX (Severson or younger top 4D) Schenn-Bear Dermott-Burroughs That is a solid D for a team in win now mode which our brass seems to be.
