(Speculation) Conor Garland buyout this Summer?

Would this owner sign off on such a big number (cost) though?  It does makes sense from a team building POV though.

We could buy out OEL and add sugar (not too sure how we get the sugar though?) to dumperoo Garland?

Lots of money saved to extend Bo and Kuz Missile and add D if it comes available.

Well, if we were to buyout OEL, trade Garland with a bit of sugar and trade Boessr, we'd have plenty of money to re-sign BO and Kuzmenko.  Isn't that what everyone wants?

Myers and Pearson are gone after next year as well, so all of a sudden we would have millions in cap space.  Management has to be thinking about this.  If BO is actually re-signed this year then you would think a Garland and Boeser trade plus an OEL buyout are all on the table...

When is the new CBA kick in, or when does it need to be negotiated?  You would think with all the COVID stuff that maybe the NHLPA could negotiate two compliance buyouts like they did back in 2012.  OEL and Garland would fit in perfectly into those buyouts.  Would at least lessen the pain of the trade somewhat and allow us to move forward with our rebuild/retool...

If our plan is to build a winner around the core five within two more years by making a strong (but not too expensive) supporting cast then these buyouts, and trades, are pretty much a must .

Maybe not.  We have been (apparently) trying to trade Garland for a long time, but there are no takers.  That could be because we are expecting a positive value return?

Then keep him. What’s the rush? Just so that we can re-sign Bo to 9 million dollars?

There is no quick fix. Just have to incrementally build things up one piece at a time. Garland is not a problem on this team.

In hindsight, we could have traded loui, roussel, beagle for oel and garland and not give up a first rounder at all. I don’t mind the trade but what we gave up considering that we were the only team interested… good that Benning is gone. Should have been fired after that terrible season in turn Canadian division.

Great for us fans and for the team but there is no way our owner would commit that kind of money to buyouts.  He would still be spending to the cap after shelling out 30+ million.  I just don't see him doing that.

I agree.  Either we throw in the towel and rebuild for the next 4-5 years, or we buyout OEL, trade Garland with some sugar, trade Boeser, wait for Myers and Pearson to get off the books, and then all of a sudden we have like $27 million to re-sign BO and Kuzmenko, and sign a guy like Ryan Graves in free agency to replace OEL.  Get some more help on defence this summer as well like Jake Livingstone and maybe a guy like Callan Foote, re-sign Schenn as well.  Our defence all of a sudden looks like an NHL defence.

If our owner wants this management group to turn the club into a winner quickly (build around the current core five) then he's really got not other choice.

If this is true, then this is another example of this management's inability to correctly evaluate our team and players. Garland is underrated and not the problem with this group. Find another way to clear cap ffs, preferably with guys who deserve to move one.

Hughes        Schenn

Graves         Bear

Dermott       Foote

Rathbone    Livingstone

Hell of alot better than what we have right now...

Don't forget we should trade all our picks for the next 5 years and get picks 1 through 10 this year. Ez NHL23 rebuild

Make sure to acquire a couple of firsts next year just to balance it out, just trade for a team with really bad goalies!

I agree.  Garland is at his lowest value right now, due to playing on the 3rd line and very little PP mins.  Normally

he's a top 6 player is feisty, works hard and has a solid offensive game.  For whatever the reason, he is not

being played to increase his value in a trade.  If the coach won't pump his tires now, then do it early next season.

Better late, than never seeing if Garland's value will go up (as it did last season 52pt in 72gm).

The famous salesman's quote: "buy low; sell high"; doesn't appear to be a tactic in this case.

The only main players that must be signed or traded by TDL are Bo , Kuzmencho, and  Schenn.  Any other

players can wait until the offseason.

Would be nice to trade JT before his trade protection kicks in on July 1st.

Lol buyout Garland what a ridiculous idea.

This is up there in stupidity along with signing Brock and letting Motte walk. No wonder we have a country club when we pay big bucks for lazy players and ship the guys who play with gutz.

If that actually happened it will signal we’re taking the exact same approach as the last management.

Trading dead cap for a desperate attempt to stay competitive.

IMO Garland isn't dead cap. He's being mis cast because we are flooded on the wing and trying to pump Brock and Kuzmenko's tires. Once their gone Garland will bounce back. He was top 30 in the league 5v5 last year he didn't just fall off a cliff he got buried by crappty roster mgmt.

No I mean buying him out would add dead cap to the books just to create space for another signing.
