This thread is ridiculous. Out of all the contracts we have Garland being bought out is just stupid.

I see Ricks had too many crown and cokes again. His doctor told him years ago to stop. It’s showing with this lazy “report”

Myers would barely save us anything buyout wise due to how Benning gave him a 5m signing bonus for his last year of contract.

Also, buying Garland out is just stupid, trade him. Bury Stillman in the AHL, trade Pearson to Calgary to rejoin Toffoli and coach Sutter. Trade 1 if not both of JT and Bo, offer Kuz a deal in February if he declines ship him off at the deadline too. Same goes for Schenn I like him but you take the pick or prospect and trade him to a playoff team. Oilers want a LHD any way we can get them to take OEL? I would even retain similar to what Arizona did just to clear another 6m. Coilers need better D with the goaltending they continue to have but what salary can we take back if Coilers would even take OEL...probably a pipe dream to try and move OEL. But hey if we bring Tocchet in as coach maybe he might want to leave considering they didn't get along well when both were in Arizona. That was the start of OEL's downfall sort of no? Guy use to be a goal scoring D who could run a PP. Still think OEL & Hughes should be on PP1 and tell OEL to shoot the puck from the point.

And you want to keep boeser?

Woah

Winning moves by Benning :(

You know, I would agree with you until I look at his stats

2020/21 - 21GP 3.67GAA .899 Save Percentage

2021/22 - 24GP 2.78GAA, .913 Save Percentage

I don't think that Holtby was a bad addition decision for us, I think WE were a bad addition decision for Holtby. Demko did EVERYTHING you could ever hope from a goalie and more last year. Not every goalie can do that or should be expected to do that. Our guys this year don't look all that good until you look at the quality of the chances we keep giving other teams, which is a direct reflection on Managements inability to fix our defensive problems last summer.

So, I looked up OEL's buyout.  It's actually not that bad.  We get $7 million in savings next year when we have to re-sign Kuzmenko.  And another $5 million the year after when we have to re-sign Petey.  The 3rd and 4th year suck, but by then all of our guys would be re-signed.  The 5th to 8th year is just over $2 million.  Not the end of the world really.  Cap should be substantially higher by then.  Yes, we would need a replacement for OEL.  I'd go hard after Ryan Graves.  If our cap savings is $7 million next year then we'd have lots of room to sign Graves plus Kuzmenko.  With Myers and Pearson off the books in 2024 that's another $10 million in cap space.

It's not the most ideal situation to have this buyout linger for the next 8 years, but it may help to fix some of our problems.  The other option is to retain $2 million and see if there is a buyer.  Problem is OEL won't just go anywhere, which is the reason the buyout may be the best solution.

That is the biggest bang for the buck right there.

OEL should be the target but would also cost the most to buy out.

8 years would be tough.  But I think for sure he will be bought out with 2 years left and we have to eat the extra 2 years at around $1.5 million each.  There is no way that OEL will play out his entire contract with the Canucks.  I would bet big money on a buyout over the next 2 years.

If we kept all those useless contracts we would of been ahead by now! Same sh#^# show with extended cap hits.. improved nothing. Trade the owner he also has his own sh÷<#&&÷ show at home to deal with. If he likes to meddle so much don't hire gm don't even hire an upper office just run the team gm/owner aquaman should not have title owner to his name should be owner/gm. Past 10 years the gm wasn't the problem. Lindin has guts to call out the owner. Gillis also then the truth starts to surface about our owners....false hope

i'd trade a player with cap retained before buying any of them out.. it makes 0 sense to instead have a cap off the book in 4 years.. and let it be on the book for 8 years instead. unless you are telling me they have absolutely 0 value with cap retained. and shouldn't even be in the NHL

Just saw a rumor stating the The canucks and flyers have been discussing Dermott+ Garland for Provorov.

Not after tonight.

Vancouver is very supportive of their LGBTQ community. It would be a PR disaster to bring in a guy that refused to wear a pride jersey.
