Not gonna lie, given how the team is playing as a whole I'm not convinced Burroughs makes much of a difference

But he's also just a 5-6D at best imo, more likely a 6-8D, I don't expect him the move the needle a ton when he does eventually get in

I don't think burroughs would have changed much except he would've challenged someone to a fight after all the damn hooks and trips on petey. They did that all 3 games and zero fights happened (1 fights, 1 roughing last season in 3 games). Burroughs is a UFA, i doubt he'll resign if he has other options.

I'm all for tanking but we have to stand up more. Pearson's slow but i miss his willingness to scrap.

I like Pearson tbh, he brings a defensive conscience to the line he's on despite not being a defensive specialist, but he's a player I'd be looking to flip at next season's deadline

Buyout wouldn't be worth it, just ride it out, same goes for Myers if we can't trade him this season, if nothing else he's a tank commander for a team that could probably use a couple high 1sts and could probably be flipped next season at 50% imo

Burroughs does bring some missing grit and he's sound defensively for a guy who's more of a depth guy, I see why people like him

But yeah, wouldn't be shocked if he moved on given we've got Bear and Dermott as RFA's and Stillman signed for another season

I like Burroughs too, but i'm not sure he's more than a depth guy.   He's on this depressing list despite only being in 17 games:

In his defense it's not hard to pick up a minus on this team, but yeah he's not irreplaceable by any stretch

I'd be fine retaining him on a one way deal and keeping him around as a depth guy in the bigs or in Abbotsford but I won't be upset if he moves on

I'm not taking homework assignments from you, I've got enough on my plate with actual school starting back up. Like I said, Jersey had some lottery luck, and yes it's absolutely been a gradual process.

LA is still leaning on the pillars of their cup winning teams, they're likely still in rebuild territory despite their success this season and last, but they've got some talented young players on the roster and in the system. Plus some prime aged talent. They need to address their goaltending, certainly. Although Copley has shown well in a small sample size. Doughty will likely be a top player for them til he retires, he's aging pretty well. They're still further ahead of us, not contenders by any stretch but they're absolutely competitive right now.

I've no issue with a longer term rebuild, when you embrace one there's no guarantee it'll be a short process. But hey, it's not as if it could be much worse than what I've seen this season and last as far as wins and losses go. And hey, if it is, so be it. I've waited this long, I can keep waiting if there's a clear direction. Rebuild or not, all I can do as a fan is watch and wait anyway.

As for top picks, well, I wouldn't be advocating for bottoming out if I didn't see their value.

if you dont want to do a bit of research, dont complain. Because right now you are complaining for the sake of complaining, without taking a bit of time to educate yourself just a little bit. If you know its a gradual process that isnt ever going to be linear, stop complaining? Its a losing season by the seems of it, so you and the rest of us are getting what we want, another high draft pick. Be patient and let our drafting and development do the work. This management group pissed the bed when they didnt move Miller. However we still have Horvat to help change the tides and get us pieces we need. JB as much as you all love to crucify him, laid the foundation and handed this current group several assets to move and capitalize on their value Miller and Garland being 2 assets that should have been sold last year. Boeser is another who they could get something in return for. They failed to do so. The biggest stall for us is development right now. We were 8 years behind on development in 2014, our picks have been catching us up to the rest of the league and now the players have a place to develop finally. Its going to take a few years, but imho we are nowhere near as bad or in as much trouble as several other organizations around the league. We are just under .500, considering we are barely under .500 and teams like Edmonton with generational talent are just over .500… Is a sign that our youth is slowly coming together and in a few years when Podz, Hogs, Karlsson, Klim, Rathbone, Jurmo, D-Petey, Silovs etc etc develop for a few seasons and then step in on ELCs or cheap RFA contracts, we’ll start to take over. As these players begin to make the team, we can sell off roster players to continue retooling around Petey/Hughes. We needed to build the team before we could stock the farm. We are now finally able to send guys to the minors to develop, this is HUGE for the future. Whens the last time we had that? 2003-2007 roughly. We havent produced or had a stable environment to develop prospects in 15-20 years. Most of these players we signed or acquired serve 1 purpose right now and that is to be place holders until our development path is in cement and we have an influx of youth to support the main core pieces for the next 10-15 years until it starts all over again and hopefully by then, we have such a strong development path that we can continually compete and contend like STL and BOS have done the last 50 yearsCE0621F2-4AA1-40CC-A82C-A999CFEB6E12.thumb.png.89b4c9bb3617f04cf8ad48c353dd6f87.pngB054A4B9-8786-404F-B24C-27E7CD4EFC28.thumb.png.6ec9c34f1d7fde5b4e2560000f469a68.png

LAK have beaten the weak and struggling teams and lost to the competitive teams all season. LAK have scored around the same rate as us and allowed the same amount of goals against at nearly the same rate. If they are still “leaning” on the pillars of their cup winning teams, lets not talk about their “rebuild” until they lose those iron pillars and see how their talent floats or sinks. Just because you think they are “competitive” because of their record, doesnt mean they are. LAK have some decent talent in place as do we, they are over performing and reality will soon kick in and they’ll find themselves outside the playoffs.

NJD started off 19-3? Or was it 19-4?Either way they’re 25-12-3, losses are piling up and wins are not as decisive. Was it a hot start and reality finally setting in? Or are they actually that good? I see plenty of losses against playoff teams and a few wins against mediocre and bottom teams recently. They piled up wins against quite a few weaker teams and teams that struggled out of the gates. Since then, most teams have found their rhythm, NJD have had a harder time winning games against strong teams.

If we had a GAA of under 3 or a league average PK, we would without a doubt be holding a playoff spot.

i've always spellled his name to that Oscar Meyer commercial...

What makes this extra funny is the fact you misspelled Oscar Mayer as Oscar Meyer when quoting Oscar Mayer. It would be easiest for everyone if they just traded him for futures.

1 question.

People seem to think we would tank on purpose to get Bedard. Possible? Maybe...

Do you think any team (Players) would roll that dice to get a good player on the team...as that player will most likely take your spot. lol

No, the players aren't going to stop trying. That's why it'll likely take a larger trade, like a Horvat trade, for us to truly bottom out.

Bedard ain't likely even if we do, but drafting top five would be great.

A tank isn't getting the players to stop trying, it's management moving players out or structuring their roster in a way that makes them less competitive. The Canucks haven't set out to tank, their roster simply isn't structured very well, their defense and team defense isn't very good, and they simply haven't played very well outside of the offensive zone for much of the season.

Only management has access to the keys that will start the tank.
To get the tank rolling, management needs to dismantle the existing group to a degree that leaves them hapless and destined to lose.
Imo players themselves will not intentionally take a tank into battle regardless of job security.
