Popular Post Goal:thecup Posted February 9, 2023 Popular Post Share Posted February 9, 2023 (edited) [GDT] Thursday, Feb 9/23 Vancouver Canucks (20-27-4) @ New York Islanders (27-22-5) 4:30PT at UBS Arena TV: SNP RADIO: SN650AM BO-BEAU EDITION: For the first time in his NHL career, Bo Horvat will be facing off AGAINST the Vancouver Canucks, after being traded for a 2023 conditional* 1st round pick, a center prospect (20 yr old Finn, Aatu Räty), and left wing (25 yr old Anthony Beauvillier from Sorel-Tracy Quebec). *Condition: First 12 Places Protected; defaults to an Unprotected 2024 1st Round pick. Right from when he was drafted in 2013, Bo was considered a Captain-in-Waiting and was named Captain in October 2019. Bo served well but got caught in the flat-cap, no-cap-room era. The new management team wanted to change the culture around the team and get younger (Bo will be 28 in 2 months), and get more prospects and draft picks. Räty has started in the AHL and fans are hoping that the NYI finish about 13th to 16th in the 2023 draft order so that we get that 1st round pick this year to go along with our own high 1st round pick. Beau is an exciting forward who is already fitting in and contributing with the Canucks. He had an outstanding career in the QMJHL and was taken by the Islanders with the 28th pick in the 2015 draft. In his limited time with the Canucks, he seems to have found some room in the top 6 with his very good skating, passing, and shooting along with his upbeat attitude. No points yet but they will come and it will be interesting to see who scores more points between Bo and Beau. (Bo has 1 goal so far; both have played 2 games.) Vancouver has completed its first two games on its road trip through the Tri-State Area, both by one goal loss to the New Jersey Devil on Monday and the New York Rangers last night. The Kraken held no lead against the Rangers all game, losing 4-3 in the end. The Canucks found themselves 2-1 down after the first half, with their lone goal coming off the stick late Conor garland. Vasily Podkolzin hit Igor Shesterkin to the 3:2 transition into the third third, but Mika Zibanejad scored late to give Rangers a comfortable 4-2 lead. Elias Petterson Just moments later, he scored to close the one-goal deficit, but that goal from Zibanejad proved decisive and ended up being the winner of the game. The former 9th overall Canucks champion scored his first goal in the Islanders jersey and wowed the crowd at the UBS Arena. He now has a chance to make a statement against the team that tried to get rid of him while the islanders play winning hockey. Horvat has 32 goals and 55 points in the season that leads the team and in his two games as an islander he has one goal, six shots on target, four hits and three blocks. On the other hand, if anyone wants to beat the Islanders in this game for the Canucks, it’s definitely Beauvillier. The roster piece the Canucks got back in last week’s trade has yet to score with his new team, and how much more poetic could it get to score a goal in the building he once called home. Tito has recorded nine goals and 11 assists in 50 games this season and has struggled with inconsistencies on the island this season. This match is sure to be emotional for both sides and it’s fair to expect Long Island to give the fan favorite, who had many memorable moments as an Islander, a warm welcome. The Isles visited Vancouver in their second game of 2023 during a grueling four-game road trip, with the bunch’s only win coming against the Canucks. Barzal, a native of British Columbia, scored the deciding victory for the Islanders in front of friends and family in a 6-2 victory for the Islanders. Raty scored the first goal for the Isles against his soon-to-be new team and guess who scored both of Vancouver’s goals. That’s right, Bo Horvat. Bo looks to do very well in NY playing with Barzal, I see them getting into the playoffs. Maybe the Canucks end up with a low-20s pick. (take a Dman) Any success Bo has against the Canucks will suck, so I'm hoping he goes goalless tonight anyway. Schenn may not play, they should sit him, I think he tweeked his back, that usually needs a few days of rest to correct even after seeing a chiropractor. Hughes will be seeing double and breathing could be an effort. Both should sit out a couple of games. The Canucks let in 5 goals and the Islanders will not be backing off the way the Devils and Rangers did, both those teams didn't give 100%. I expect a loss, the AHL guys will play hard and give effort, the 3rd/4th lines will perform hopefully Boeser looks good for those eastern teams trade possibilities. I think schen will sit out and dermott will be in and they may even play burroughs in case hughes isn't 100% so i'd guess dries would be the odd one out.
