Seriously hurts that the Bruins and Canucks were on par in 2011.  One team is tops in the league.  The other is near the bottom.

People mock their 2015 draft but imagine selecting Pastrnak at 24 in 2014 and McAvoy at 14 in 2016. That's why you have to trust your scouts to do their job.

This is true.  However, they had 3 shots in a row in 2015.  Even Maggie the Monkey could have done better and gotten at least one of the stud players they passed on.  Even playing darts would have worked better...

Seems like we should have squeezed a 2nd from NYI as well.  2024 2nd would have been ideal...

Raty is the "2nd". So these other teams moved an extra pick to acquire another player.

Our 1st is also likely a mid 1st, whereas these other deals involve likely a late or later 1st than what we would get.

Well unless you make the proper assumption that all the Leafs picks will be in the middle of the round when they are punted in the first round of the playoffs, and all the Bruins ones near the end of the rounds :) :D

Really hoping the Canucks start acting as a broker and start loading up on these picks

they always say they’re willing but never act on it

That would be good, but just remember we can only retain on 3 contracts maximum (so 2 more along with Horvat's one). The typical return on retaining 25% salary on an in/out rental contract (like Orlov or O'Reilly) is a 4th or 5th round pick - so not amazing.

Think we can do a lot better by taking on whole player contracts that contenders want to move out (maybe for a 2nd or 3rd round pick). There's no limit on those as long as you have the cap space. But unfortunately not many contenders have those kind of contracts...
