Popular Post Elias Pettersson
2022-23 Selke Trophy Race: End of Season Update (thehockeywriters.com) 1. Patrice Bergeron 2. Elias Pettersson 3. Jordan Staal 4. Nico Hischier 5. Mitch Marner 2) Elias Pettersson 2022-23 Stats: 80 GP, 89 BkS, 56 TkA, 20:33 TOI The 2022-23 campaign will be one to remember for Vancouver Canuck fans as it became the year Elias Pettersson turned into a star. The Canucks center finished the season tied with J.T. Miller in shorthanded goals with five and penalty kill points with nine, as the two were often more dangerous down a player than on the power play over the final 30 games of the season. He also showed a willingness to get in front of pucks whenever possible, as his 89 blocked shots ranked second among forwards across the entire NHL. Vancouver struggled defensively for most of the season, but Pettersson still ended the year with decent analytics at even strength. He had a SA/60 of 27.7 while also recording an XGA/60 of 2.8. Lastly, his HDCA/60 finished at 11.46, which was lower than centers like Sebastian Aho, Nazem Kadri and Bo Horvat. Despite the Canucks once again missing the playoffs, fans in Vancouver can at least take solace in knowing they have one of the brightest young stars in the league on their team and one that will be a favourite for the Selke Trophy next season. Miss Korea Bob.Loblaw
This is one take from a writer who seems to have a Canucks bias. Nice change of pace compared to all the east coast writers, but I doubt Pettersson will be a nominee this year. He'll get votes for sure, just not enough to get in the top three. Bergeron and Datsyuk really encouraged players to develop two-way games, and there are a ton in the NHL right now. The biggest problem with Petey is that his team didn't make the playoffs this year. A smaller problem is his weak faceoff percentage.

DownUndaCanuck
Slap in the face if Bergeron wins it again, he had 58 points. The award has to be a top scorer, not some 3rd line center. He's won it so many times before because he's been a top scorer in the league but under 60pts is good for a bottom-6 forward in today's NHL. Time to move on. 2

Petey played almost 300 more min than Bergeron too. ~21 min per game vs ~17 min. 2

The mobility of todays defenceman and the coaching is another level, he would have been very good today but not sure he really would have been that much better.

They get so focused on faceoffs for this award. And like others have said it’s a popularity vote now more than anything. They’re trying to make history while awarding a player they like rather than looking at actual numbers. Petey may not deserve to win but he should easily be considered a top 3. I’d say Kopitar deserves it then Petey, then Bergeron third. 1

Yeah I mean it's so important for the teams direction, if they don't it's full rebuild time... committed fully but if they do lock him up... Fix the D and move a couple wingers, dig deep on some cheap supporting cast for the next 8 years. I agree he is our best forward ever. More bite than the Sedins had but with all the skill, a wicked shot like Nazzy I mean you can't ask for more. Awesome two way player. Lock him up and build the team properly around him and Hughes 3

If Bure hadn't had the same luck as Cam Neely with his knees and if he hadn't played in the dead puck era his numbers would have been absolutely insane. He missed two full seasons before he was 28, plus there was the lockout shortened year. Then he never played a healthy season again after age 29. If you just have him playing to age 30 without those injuries it's another 150 goals right there taking him more or less to 600. Have him play past the age of 30 and also not dragged down by the dead puck era and you're looking at possibly another 200. We have an award for top scorer - the Art Ross trophy. The best two-way forward in the NHL history is Patrice Bergeron, period. More impressive is that he hasn't lost a step, still making major contributions both offensively and defensively. When the league's best defensive forward can story 25 goals and 60 points per season, what more can you ask for? There isn't a single defensive metric where Bergeron falls behind others. Playing less minutes is usage rate. Irrelevant. He's scored enough points, so offense is irrelevant, especially for an award dedicated to DEFENSE. The metrics that count (DEF, XDEF, RAPM ga), he is #1 in everything. 2

It’s not even comparable. I think Petey is amazing a close second, but every time Bure got the puck everyone was out of their seats and it just seemed like he’d do something amazing every shift. Petey has a bit of the same vibe, and like I said, second best ever in my books, but just not quite the same electric energy. Can’t even describe it. edit: haha and just saw HorvatToBaertschi’s comment. I’d say Pavel was both, most electric and most talented.
