There is no substitution for real games that mean something. It's easy to see two losses and think house is on fire, but there are 80 more games to be played. Half the defense is new. Half the top 6 is new. Still sucks giving up 2 points to two division rivals, one of which we should be in a dog fight with for a playoff spot if things start to click for the team. Assumptions; Defending team is using standard 4-box PK; Open their box with D-D passing. By having the D on their "off wing" you allow them to use their body to shield the puck if the defenders chase - this is exactly what you want, as the top of the box is now open. A quick bank off the half wall to "your side" with the backhand, winger side (off side winger) allows more body control if they keep chasing and tiring themselves out. The weak side defender can then drift into the high slot (now vacated by the forward chasing the D-man) for a heavy one timer; if the defenders don't chase, use the half wall to goad them in. Miller is a big boy with beauty hands in front of the net, he'll tie up one if not both defenders at that place, making a nice screen for bodies and still get a chance at the tip. Watch him work if you get a chance. Work the puck along the half wall, draw them in. Pettersson to Edler to Myers to Brock for a one timer from the inside of the hashes on the circle, that lane should be open if the puck was along the far half wall. Those wingers can drift further outside (just past the dot) if the defenders respond to pressure quickly; a missed net means the halfwall man on the other side can retrieve, and look for a new opening from the D-men. Two very strong D-shooters there as long as the defending team is moving, shots WILL get through. Shots from those spaces on the ice give the goalie no time to see it, they simply have to go down and hope it hits them as they slide over - they can't cheat hard, because otherwise the shots will be too easy on the way though. There you go, there's a very, very, very basic powerplay that has at least "some purpose" in mind. Free for you, Newell Brown. They should pay them normal people wages and we would see some real compete.....some guys willing to do anything to keep their job. Instead...give every one of them millions to see them skate around and do nothing lol. I am sure it will get better. horvat bloody well needs to get WAY better if they give him the C. At this point I think it is a mistake. Edit: and fire this idiot PP coach. He has done nothing effective for years....change it up for phucks sake.
