Popular Post Rush17
- Toffoli Add. - Boeser / Leivo Injuries. I found this the most intriguing quote. Sounds like we might replace some of our middle range veterans over the next few years. I heard that was Jim's plan but this is pretty impressive if he's expecting 7 new players over the next 2-3 years! 250Integra
Excited to see the addition of Toffoli. If we make the playoffs, we'll look pretty good with Boeser and Leivo back in the lineup.
EternalCanuckFan
Rough year for Boeser. I was already of the mind that this summer would be intriguing but adding Toffoli makes it even more intriguing. I don't see the Canucks being keen on letting him walk but there are a lot of moving parts. Assuming Roussel and Beagle are the main veterans who will stay and Gaudette is seen as a regular moving forward (hard to argue against it), then one or more of Sutter, Ferland, Eriksson or Baertschi (obviously hasn't been a major factor this year) may be dealt and who knows what happens with Tanev, Stecher and Virtanen. WHL rocks
Boeser out for at least 2 months. Ferland done for year Leivo out for regular season. Do the Canucks have enough to make the playoffs Going to be tough.

His father's health probably the biggest thing on his mind. Hope he fully heals in time for the playoffs.
Popular Post VegasCanuck
These are the notes I took, in some cases inferred from the conference: - Boeser is worse than they thought, he's at least 8 weeks out, could be sooner, but will be reevaluated by doctors in 3 weeks and revise timeline if necessary - Ferland played first period and didn't feel right so, took himself out of the game, will continue to work with specialists and will see if he's able to resume next season. - Leivo will be reevaluated in next few days, but is gone at least until the end of the season, possibly playoffs as well, but they don't know for sure yet. They didn't say this, but it sounded like Benning was saying that they are waiting to see if he will need surgery. - Motte is practicing and is really close, should be playing again shortly - MacEwan might need to go down again, but they see him now as an NHL player and that they expect him to be on the team next year out of camp. They are happy with his play and how strong he is along the boards. Pretty much indicated that MacEwan made Schaller completely expendable. - They said that they considered bringing up Baerstchi or Boucher, and that they may still get an opportunity through the end of the season, both have played well in Utica and that Boucher is engaging, driving to the net and playing a much better 2 way game than he has in past. - Said that they made the trade because that wanted to show the fans, coaches and players that they believe in this team and group of guys that they have here and that the needed someone who could step in for Boeser and perform. They weren't specifically looking to make this trade until Boeser went down. - Said that they believe that they have at least 7 guys in the pipeline right now, either in Utica, Junior or College, who they expect will be full time Canucks over the next 2 or 3 years and because of that, they felt that they could afford to move a prospect and that they felt that center was a position that they could sacrifice from. - Doesn't like to move draft picks, but felt it was necessary at this point. - Will talk with Toffoli after the season is over about staying long term, said he was thrilled to be coming to Vancouver with the strong mix of young talent that has been assembled here, is looking forward to competing for playoffs again. - Said that he's not specifically looking to make other moves ahead of the deadline, but isn't opposed to it, will see what's out there and if anything makes sense. My general feeling was, especially after saying that he thinks at least 7 guys are ready for full time over the next 2 - 3 years, that he sees a number of guys will be signed out of Junior and college over the next 8 weeks. If we're not looking for more help with defense, I think it probably means (making assumption) that the believes that he will be bringing Tryamkin back. 2 3 4 1

Ferland might be done. Hopefully LE retires after his bonus. Baertschi will likely be bought out. Surely we will explore moving Sutter in the offseason (can't see us trading him if we are carrying him into next season) and I'm fine even if it's a cap retained trade as long as that gives us added value in the return (he's as much of a cap dump as JT Miller was). I think Roussel's time might be up. I find it interesting that he hasn't been on the PK much when he has been previously. I think he's a player that still has value in the league, so we could potentially trade his entire cap hit and still net a decent return. We have players like MacEwen/Lind/long shot Hoglander too that could potentially take his spot especially if he doesn't have a role on the PK. Rush17
Sounds like we might move some lesser prospects out to fill out holes. He mentioned macewan may get sent down will see what happens at the tdl. so imo that implies we may want another bottom 6 guy or depth forward. probably someone with grit and physicality. Maybe someone who can fill in for Ferlands role.

Focht seems very underrated, but he could potentially be more than 3 years out before cracking the team.

An NHL team has 23 players and 50 players contracts including the AHL. You can't have 15 draft picks every year for 2-3 years and expect to develop and signs all of them. There is limited ice-time and staff resources for player development. Having too many draft picks can actually hurt your most prominent prospect, since resources are spread thin. This was a low risk, high reward trade IMO. 1 6

Defense maybe, Dillon possibly at the right price.

Ossi Vaananen
Towards the end of the Canucks edit, when asked about MacEwen, Benning says he expects him to make the team out of camp and stick with the club. He should be a nice, cheap, physical addition.
