  1. I totally agree with this and in a way want Baer to be moved. But, Sedins leaving may mean we hold onto Baer for a while longer even though Id be fine giving his ice time to guys like Goldy, Virtanen and Leipsic. Thoughts? Would you move Baer?

Montreal doesn't need wingers but Cs.  They are not going to use picks on players they don't need when their priority are top-6 Cs and a PMD to play with Weber.

    3. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

Gagner! Gagner for a second round pick .

    4. Baer.

      Baer.

"deal him for picks" trading a player's rights instead of signing him first pretty much cuts his value in half.

  2. Canucks are going to win again aren't they... don't know whether to feel happy or sad by this. Part of me really wants to see our draft odds go up and the other part of me is glad to see Goldy and other young guys playing well

  3. Where are Marky's weak goals when you want them? Come on man we are trying to tank here, why have you stopped helping us?

Looks like it went off the stanchion but kind of weak considering he didn't really have a play on it. Theres that bad goal though haha

He got one, just the Canucks scored 3 more. :)

  4.

Damn, was really hoping he would go to free agency and sign with the Canucks. He had such nice chemistry with Gaudette. Oh well, heres hoping we sign some top college free agents in the coming days as things wrap up.

    1. Coconuts

      Coconuts

Was kinda hoping we'd grab him somehow too, their play together was something special.

    2. luckylager

      luckylager

They could be reunited, but they'll still have fun playing against eachother.

It's the guys who give you the hardest time in practice that are often your best friends. Plus, you don't go all Marchand on those you respect.

Stech and Boes were college besties.

But there's something to be said for not being a dick and signing with the team that drafted you. There's not a team in the world that drafts a player they don't want to see have success.

  5. I don't care if the Canucks win but it would be nice to see them score a goal at least.

On a side note I think Goldy is looking very good tonight!

    1. Jam126

      Jam126

Hasn't this happened every March for the past 3 seasons where the Canucks only score 1 goal every 3 games?

  6. Wondering if this constant never ending line juggling is part of the problem why we aren't scoring. Seems like every shift theres a different line and that just seems bizarre and unproductive. Leave some guys together and let them build chemistry because whats happening right now isn't working. Or is this all part of the tank plan?

    1. Brad Marchand

      Brad Marchand

It's because there isn't enough talent in the lineup right now.

Green has been making in-game line adjustments all season. They didn't have the same problems scoring when Boeser, Baertschi, Vanek, and to a lesser extent, Eriksson and Granlund were here or healthy.

    2. smithers joe

      smithers joe

hard to score when your players can't complete a pass. most of their shots are from a distance or bad angles. my vote would be to hire paul reinhart to teach these guys how to pass the puck onto their team mate's sticks and how to take those passes cleanly. maybe use a better brand of glue on their sticks.

  7. ALEXIS LAFRENIÈRE

OHL (McDavid) and QMJHL are two VERY different leagues, and you cannot directly compare two players offensive output.

  8. Sucks that we have over 10M tied up in Eriksson and Sutter for the next 3+ years. Wonder if Sutter has any current trade value? Would you have to retain salary?

      Winter Soldier

Would much rather have Sutter than Eriksson.

    3. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

I'd laugh so hard if Dahlen gets paired with Eriksson and Eriksson scores 30 goals again.

Wonder what or if that would change everyone's opinion.

    4. Baer.
  9. I wonder if Nilsson has asked for a trade. Hence the recent amount of games and Markstrom having a "minor" injury. Nilsson has not had a great season here and Travis clearly isn't happy with him so I wonder if somethings going on behind the scenes?

    1. hammertime

      hammertime

Travis likes "goalies who stop the puck"

    2. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

So he like none of our current goalies?

    3. JM_

      JM_

coulda put in more effort if thats the case... for me Nilsson is probably the biggest disappointment this season (where I wasn't expecting much), mostly due to his lack of effort. I imagine he'll end up being waived at the end of training camp next season.

  10. So Goldy has a great game and doesn't get a chance in OT? And then you put both Sedins out at the same time? Sedins are great but they are too slow for 3-3.

I can understand why no Goldie based on what peaches said but I don't get putting out the Sedins. It makes me sad to watch them get hemmed in over and over again.

    3. coastal.view

      coastal.view

giving them a chance at glory for the last few times ?

i'm starting to believe they will be packing it in after this season

i really do not see useful roles for them next season

and i'm a huge sedin fan

but i think it's coming to an end

they again are gonna fall short of hitting 50 points

i really doubt they'd get 40 next season if they did return

    4. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

ya you'd like to see them go out playing decent, so Im hoping they retire. But you never know. Goldy could be the next Sedin, he has the offensive talent and unfortunately the same defensive deficiencies. Yet he's a faster skater. Im really hoping he has a Sedin spot next year.

  11. Its amazing that Vanek(P39) is currently outscoring Kane(P38) and Nash(P27) at this moment. He really has the potential to be the steal of the TDL for rentals. Heres hoping we can get a second for him

Kane has barely been scoring at all for the last 6-8 weeks.

    3. Baer.

Kane is so overrated on this site

  12. Can someone explain to me how a high stick that draws blood isn't a 4 minute penalty?

    1. Show previous comments  6 more
    2. Art Vandelay

      Art Vandelay

The ref is not required to assess a double minor if there is blood. It’s an option the ref has at his discretion. Options being a double minor, a major, or a match penalty, IF there is a obvious/visible injury. I’ve seen double minors assessed when there wasn’t blood.

Don’t agree with the call tonight, but it was within the rules.

  13. Can you imagine if Brocks skating picks up like Bo's did...Boeser is already unreal but if his skating picks up it would make him legen...*wait for it*...dary!!!!!!

  14. Send Virtanen to Utica tomorrow when you activate Bo. He's just not showing consistency and the style of game we need him to play. Better for him to get top minutes down there and some confidence back.

@kingofsurrey You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. We'd be the Arizona Coyotes (maybe even worse) without the Sedins.

    3. Cramarossa

      Cramarossa

Danny is on a five game point streak, with seven points in his last 10 games. Hank just ended a five game streak himself. They are contributing more than many others. It's time for the youngsters (and goalies) to step up; they haven't.

    4. J-23

      J-23

Virtanen needs to know he's still competing for a spot, should be working on his game all the time, on breaks, off-season etc. Working hard, because he ain't going to be getting many more opportunities, and I've been the biggest Virt fan.

  15. Assuming not First overall in draft.

    1. Boqvist

    2. K'Andre Miller

    3. Filip Johansson

    4. Sean Durzi

And the defensive prospect pool is fixed

  16. I like Ferraro but he is being very biased towards Canada this game with regard to penalties

    1. Western Red

      Western Red

BMac insinuated that EP took a dive as well... Its to be expected. Can't let meatheads rule the game, nor snowflakes. Both teams have them. Still missing KB3 here! Hard to put a price on character like his.

    2. Rounoush

      Rounoush

At the end of the game he said, "I liked the refs tonight. They let the teams play."  6-1 in penalties isn't just letting the teams play. Some of those Swedish penalties were weak.

    3. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

Extremely weak, and i saw quite a few non calls on the canadians

  17. After watching Tkachuk this game I would be ok with drafting him. He draws the penalty that leads to the tying goal and then scores the second goal. Anyone that can get under a guys skin, make plays and score goals I want on my team

  18. Lines could be stacked in the future

    _____-Pettersson-Goldobin (ultimate skill)

Dahlen-Horvat-Boeser (Hard working two way line)

Virtanen-Gaudette-Lind (hard to play against in so many ways)

Gadjovich-Gaunce-Granlund (Shutdown line with some skill)

    Lockwood

    Juolevi-____

    Pouliot-Stetcher

    Tryamkin-Chatfield

    Brisebois-McEneny

    Demko

    Dipietro

Thats pretty good since we still have a couple years of rebuild left. Have to appreciate Bennings ability to find talent in the draft. With future drafts and more unknowns that could arise as good players such as Rathbone, Candella, Brassard, Palmu you have to be excited.

Excited we will most likely be picking at the top of the draft again. I see 2 big holes in our lineup. A top line LW/C and a top RD. Luckily one of those needs can be filled in the coming draft.

If Jake's offensive game doesn't pick up in the next year, he probably won't be in Van.  There's only so much patience that they'll show with him before they replace him with someone new.

      RetroCanuck

I've thought Goldobin has looked solid the last couple weeks and his skill is amazing. He may need a little sheltering but I think he will be in our long term plan

  19. 4 prospects off to the world juniors is pretty good. Glad to see this rebuild is going along nicely.

Quality over Quantity, but you still need Quantity of good players to go with the elite. Just ask Edmonton lol

Its amazing to think of what Benning has done with this team, especially through the draft. You can already see a lineup forming.

      _____-Pettersson-Boeser

      Dahlen-Horvat-Lind

      Virtanen-Gaudette-Granlund

      Lockwood-Gaunce-Gadjovich

      Juolevi-_____

      Pouliot-Stetcher

      Tryamkin/Brisebois- Chatfield

I think we need two more elite players. A top pairing RD which we hopefully get in this draft and a top LW via trade or signing. Potentially Kane?

    3. Alflives

      Alflives

Totally agree.  Kane costs only money, and fills an important need.  And it’s our turn to win the draft lottery!  Dhalin!!!

    4. GritGrinder

      GritGrinder

Tampa Bay is the top team in the league and Cup favorite right now and they have 4 top prospects just on Team Canada. Now thats impressive.

  20. Always enjoy a scouting site recognizing Canucks players! They definitely have a few in there

    http://www.dobberprospects.com/boesers-release-abramovs-dilemma-and-the-hughes-brothers/

  21. Great night of hockey! Boeser and the triple B line just lighting it up! Will say that if Virtanen isn't going to play more then he should be in Utica playing big minutes and having the ability to practice more. When Gaunce comes up, send virtanen down

  22. Wow we have a lot of potential top 6 forward and goalie prospects doing extremely well. But we definitely need some top end D prospects. Hoping Benning takes 2 defenders in the top 3 rounds next draft. Although Im a believer in draft best player available we need some D prospect depth.

Forwards- Pettersson, Dahlen, Goldobin, Lind, Gaudette, Gadj, Palmu, Lockwood. Not to mention our young graduates like Bo, Boeser, Baer, Granny, Virtanen. Theres also others that could surprise such as Jasek, MacEwen and Zhukenov.

Defense- Juolevi(LD), Brisebois(LD), Chatfield(RD). All have top 4 potential but besides Juolevi not much top pairing potential. Young graduates include Stetcher and Hutton who have top 4 potential. Other more unknown guys like Pouliot, McEneny, Tryamkin, Subban have potential but whether they will be full time NHlers is questionable. One unknown Im looking forward to watching is Rathbone as we took him in the 4th round and scouting reports have him rated highly.

Goalies- Demko, DiPietro...enough said, were good.

To some up we have some amazing up and coming prospects but are currently lacking top end defensemen. Definitely what Benning should be targeting in upcoming trades and the draft.

    1. smithers joe

      smithers joe

i trust that benning knows what we need and will do his best to get it for the team.

  23. With Edler potentially injured, do we claim Streit? Would be a potential trade chip at deadline and cost nothing. Might just depend on how long Edlers injured but he'd be a good vet presence for our backend.

      Don't we want speed?

    4. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

Plenty of speed at the top of next years draft. I honestly don't see our team/prospects (as of right now) being competitive enough to make the playoffs. Best to get some more assets and high draft picks while we can.

  24. Thought the team played well tonight but was disappointed that Virtanen only received just over 7 minutes. Considering he was having an impact and from what I saw playing strong, Id liked to have seen him hit the 10min mark. Im just hoping this isn't a precursor to what happened with Jake/McCann. Virt low min and brock cut isn't in my mind the best way to sell a rebuild and move forward. Hopefully things change in the coming games as I realize the small sample size.

    3. coastal.view

      coastal.view

      he had a solid game

he was put in instead of boeser.. good decision

coaching choices were well thought out

sedins got limited ice time,  and played reasonably well, given the oilers' speed

but let's start micromanaging our coaching after 1 game anyway

    4. Baer.

      Baer.

Boeser didn't get cut he was a healthy scratch because he doesn't deserve anything. He's just like any other rookie he has to work his way to the top. I like watching Brock but he is a bit of a puck hog and makes mistakes because of it. He needs to learn the team is fine playing without him if he feels entitled.

That's not even mentioning the fact coach green wanted Dorsett in the game to shut down McDavid and he did a hell of a job doing it last game.

  25. Cant believe how deep Toronto and Edmonton are at forward yet both so far seem reluctant to deal a piece for a good defence man. Hoping we trade Edler at the deadline, could fetch us another nice piece. And if not Edler then Tanev.

    1. morrissex95

      morrissex95

Tanev will likely be moved at some point in the next couple of years.
