  1. So has anyone noticed Schaller yet?

Is it a good thing we haven't seen him this regular season?

Or if you still want some more size then bring up MacEwen for a bit

    3. 6string

      6string

Schaller's like a shoe horn, you don't really need one.

Eriksson's like a lighter and who need's one?

    4. BrockBoester

      BrockBoester

      What's a schaller

  2. Helge Grans

This is the guy I want this coming draft. Hopefully as a second rounder

  3. After taking the time to consider yesterday I believe this will be hands down Benning's best free agency. In my mind this coming year is still a transitional one, but the year after we will be playoff competitive. Nice to imagine how are D-corps could look in a year.

    Hughes-Myers

    Juolevi-Stecher

    Tryamkin-Rafferty

    Edler-Woo

      Hughes - Myers

      Edler - Barrie* ;)

      Juolevi -  Tryamkin

      Woo

      Rafferty

With Rathbone probably going pro (hopefully). Don't sleep on this kid.

I like the way the teams shaping up, JB is not just building a 1 yr wonder but a SC contender for years to come, Just be patient.

  4. That trade screams Benning wanting to save his ass and entertain the crowd.

With that said it could be a trade that works out well for us in the long run, but Miller will have to consistently score 20 goals

    1. Tystick

      Tystick

I think his goal has always been to make the playoffs and draft well.

Now we have a good chance to do that, and depending on his future trades and signings, it may be guaranteed.

If we make the playoffs, our 2020 1st would be 16-31.

Those picks can always be reacquired realistically IMO.

  5. This pick tells me the Canucks have a timeframe in mind for being competitive. More of a longterm developmental pick considering the type of player, but I couldn't be more excited with the pick!

    1. coastal.view

      coastal.view

      this pick at 10 oa

tells me that outside of the top 3 - 5 picks each draft

the rest of the 1st round need a season or 2

before they mature enough to crack an nhl line up

so yeah, unlikely he could step into the nuck line immediately after being drafted

most fans are very excited about our young talent

but none, no one, stepped right onto the team after being drafted

so nothing really to see here

  6. Would you trade Eriksson for Ladd?

      RRypien37

      100% yes.

    3. D-Money

      D-Money

I probably wouldn't. Ladd has 4 years left on his deal, Loui has 3. Also, the last year of Eriksson's contract can be bought out for cap relief ($1M signing bonus, $3M salary), but every year of Ladd's contract is buyout-proof.

    4. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

If you were asking 3 years ago yes. He played 26 games and 11 points this year.

      And he's 33 years old.

      Pass.

  7. Sounds like Edmonton wants to ditch Sekera. Would you trade Hutton for Sekera+Puljujarvi?

    2. mll

      mll

Puljujarvi is no longer waiver exempt.  There was tension with Edmonton because he didn't want to play in the AHL and they wanted him to develop further in the AHL.

    3. Jaku

      Jaku

Nope..broke down d-man and a probable bust. Hard pass.

    4. NHL'er

      NHL'er

For sure I would. Don't think they'd give up on Puljujarvi that easily though.

  8. Glad Troy Stecher is our only RD player that can be projected with us long term because what a class act. Great player.

On a side note. Don Cherry is a joke.

@smithers joe- haha dont get me wrong. Woo's projection is a top 4 player and I believe he can be that, but he still needs to do it.

Stecher is the only professional RD player we currently have that can be projected to be here in 3 years. Woo, Rafferty and Chatfield all might prove to be NHLer's but nothing is guaranteed.

    3. NewbieCanuckFan

      NewbieCanuckFan

The Flyers got to the Finals with an entire blueline consisting of six left side D.  Course, one of those six was Chris Pronger (in his prime).  Now, all we gotta do is get/acquire a behemoth like that.:P

    4. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

Jet Woo, Brogan Rafferty are going to be here sooner rather than later.

Sign Schenn, he's a good soldier and his play down the stretch deserves at least another 1 year contract.

  9. Those times in the past you made proposals including Roope Hintz and everyone was saying he's a redundant prospect.

    Kids good

    1. ItsMillerTime

      ItsMillerTime

That's a good feeling. Most people probably judged him off his NHL rating though.

  10. I hate the no kicking rule.

NHL wants to increase scoring so why not?

Maybe make the rule you can't kick the puck in the crease or something.

      NewbieCanuckFan

Well the NHL has met you halfway RetroCanuck.  Any kicked in goal against us counts as a goal (game 7 OT goal in our series with the Flames the year they won the Cup).  But any goal that *appears* to be directed via a kick by us is automatically disallowed.

    3. Pears

      Pears

I mean if we’re being technical it’s because this is hockey and not soccer.

  11. How about if you win the lottery you aren't eligible for the spot you picked the next 5 years.

  12. Well, the only consolation is that Benning has drafted some absolute stars the last 4 years no matter where he was picking. Boeser, Pettersson and Hughes are all stars while Juolevi still looks to be a top 4D.

Boldy or Soderstrom is my guess

  13. Give Bo that C already. Guys a leader and we need that young accountability.

  14. You can tell the refs are getting ready for the playoffs. Putting their whistles away and letting sh!t go uncalled

    1. King Heffy

      King Heffy

Do they get their name on the cup for rigging a series?

    2. Brad Marchand

      Brad Marchand

Nah, they're just helping the Canucks improve their draft lottery odds.

    3. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

Maybe as the season gets older they just get tired and dont have the wind to blow the whistle?

  15. Can someone honestly tell me that Spooner has more of a future at this club then Goldobin?

Boeser, Pearson, Leivo, Virtanen, Baertschi and Rousell as it stands now will be our top 9 next season in my opinion. Ideally Virtanen and Rousell get shifted down to the 4th line with additions though.

    3. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

Wouldn't be surprised to see Goldy here next training camp though. Make it seem like a fresh start and if he cant cut it then you trade him if you can or waive him.

    4. Bissurnette

      Bissurnette

Honestly Green isn't making a lot of sense with his decisions lately.

  16. Virtanen looks just plain stupid out there sometimes

  17. I don't understand Green sometimes... Baertschi first game back and on PP1?

    1. Roberts

      Roberts

I'm surprised he didn't put Pouliot on the PP1

    2. goalie13

      goalie13

Why not?  They're only playing for pride at this point.

  18. Trade Sutter(20% retained) for a 2nd and a 4th.

Draft Drew Helleson and Michael Gildon with the 4th.

    1. smithers joe

      smithers joe

trade him to who, which team will give us a 2nd and 4th. need to know which team will do this?

  19. Would really like to see Goldy reunited with Pettersson to end the season. Skilled players need to play with skilled players in this league. Like really, how do you justify putting Eriksson in your top 6 over Goldy?

    Goldy-Petey-Boeser

    Leivo-Horvat-Pearson

    Motte-Gaudette-Virtanen

    1. smithers joe

      smithers joe

i’ld rather see jake with petey and brock. goldy looks good at times but if he isn’t creating offence, he isn’t helping this team. hopefully jake can learn to be petey and brock’s burrows.

    2. smithers joe

      smithers joe

goldy might flourish on a line with gaudette and roussel, if he is still on the team, next season. i suspect he’ll be moved, but i’ve been wrong before.

    3. Curmudgeon

      Curmudgeon

I think Goldy is done here. Green was petty blunt when mentioning he's had 2G and 2A since before Christmas. In Green's words, he has to produce to stay in the NHL. Doesn't look good.

  20. Look at that. Leafs don't fix their defense, and have allowed 23 goals in their last 4 games as Andersson tires.

Ruining their contention years through not fixing glaring holes.

Rumour hasit they're converting Nylander into a Norris calibre Dman this summer.

Like, the guy wouldn't really have to change much as is, he's so responsible and gritty. Best signing ever.

A guy who can play every position.

      Hahah- suck it chranna

    3. Brad Marchand

      Brad Marchand

Craig Button has brought it up several times this season, but the Leafs are often way too aggressive when pressuring the puck carrier. When you spend that much time chasing players around, it's inevitably going to lead to blown coverages and odd man situations.

The Leafs coaching staff needs to realize that they don't have the horses to play defense consistently this way and make some adjustments.

    4. Boeserker

      Boeserker

      Babcock is overrated.

  21. If Nico Sturm signed with us that would really solidify our centre depth moving forward. Pettersson, Horvat, Gaudette, Sturm down the centre is something to dream about if you can find the right wingers to go with them.

I see Madden more as a winger in the future that can fill in as C with injuries. Plus I think Madden has top 6 potential and we aren't moving Bo or Petey.

    3. Where's Wellwood

      Where's Wellwood

Is he related to Marco Sturm?

    4. smithers joe

sturm can also play left wing. would look great besides bo.

  22. This team lacks drive. But its our team so GO CANUCKS GO

Looks like a tank is empty deal to me.  Come home, a bit of rest then hopefully a better showing.  Just want to see them skating hard...win or lose.  GCG

    2. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

I mean this team has basically been Pettersson offensively carrying them on his back all year. He looks really tired to me and I agree with you that the whole team is to a certain extent. Hutton and Stecher have been playing crazy minutes due to our back end and they looked tired last game. Errors they haven't been making are occurring due to their fatigue.

Hughes is probably thinking. "I dont want to play for them right now... Id make them better and if their poor play keeps up they might get to draft my brother"

  23. Sad how we are only 5P out of a wildcard but 6th worst in the league. The West was truly bad this year

    1. Nuxfanabroad

      Nuxfanabroad

Now 7, 8 pts back of WC slot. Time to start thinking next yr...

  24. Anyone have a vid/gif of the Goldy hit last night.

Biggest hit of the night even if it was an accident haha

I must've missed it during my 2nd period nap.

  25. So Goldy has two very good games and then gets demoted. Cant we just keep some of our best lines together and not change them up every game?

    2. Baer.

      Baer.

I think the reason Goldy is on 3rd line is to see what Pearson can do on Petey's line

    3. smithers joe

      smithers joe

i think goldy needs to play with 2 strong defensive responsible players. i don’t see him as a top six player, so where is he suppose to play?

    4. Dazzle

      Dazzle

@smithers joe Goldobin is top six or bust. He has to earn his way for his spot, so this is a challenge for him to see if he can stick.
