  2. What Ryan Pulock worth in a trade? Would Baertschi do it?

    1. morrissex95

      morrissex95

      Pulock looks promising.

I think NYI wants him to replace Hamonic

  3. Just thinking about last season when Burr/Hans were traded at the deadline and it got me thinking of how I enjoyed cheering for them on other teams. Then my thoughts turned to the Sedins and it left me wondering...would I rather watch the Sedins in Canucks colours for they're whole career but lose non stop in the end of said career, or watch them get traded to a contending team and cheer them on to a potential cup? My mind set is Id rather see them contend for a Cup and cheer them on since they will always be Canucks in my eyes! Therefor I think we should trade the Sedins if they wish too contend and give Canucks fans something to cheer about!

    1. Ossi Vaananen

      Ossi Vaananen

It's just the team we're trading with would have to take on 14 million in cap space. We're already holding onto the max salary retention with Hansen/Luongo. I'd like to see them move on as well. We're not in a place to be competitive in their twilight, so they should really either retire or move on to a better positioned team.

  4. When thecanuckway guys write this lol

"If at least five of these guys can play up to their respective potentials in 2017-18, the Vancouver Canucks just might own one of the NHL’s most prolific scoring machines."

Lets be real. Canucks are not going to be good next year as we have no star power. We have past stars and potential future stars but to say we are going to be a leading goal scoring team in the NHL is ridiculous. Sedins are most likely going to be like last year or decline a little more, maybe 30 goals between them. Many other guys like Sutter, Dorsett, Eriksson, Gagner have reached their peak and may be consistent producer at what they are producing now. 17, 8, 20, 15 goals respectively.  And then you have our young up and comers.. Bo, Baer, Gran, Boes?  are the only ones I can see potting around 20 goals. Add all those up and assume everyone performs to their potential and doesn't get injured. Add in the few other goals scored form others and you arrive at roughly 180-200 goals which is just above where we finished last year in NHL goal scoring.

Definitely not a prolific goal scoring club but I am hoping for young guys to truly exceed expectations

    1. Fateless

      Fateless

I really hope our kids take a step forward, our "expendables" (Gagner, Sutter, Dorsett, etc.) have good years, and our veterans (Sedins, Eriksson, etc.) have down years.

Its obvious why I want the kids to improve. We need them to improve if this rebuild is going to work.

I want the "expendables" to perform well to give them value at the trade deadline so that we can have one final strong draft before actually rising in the standings.

I want the veterans to do poorly so that we can still finish at the bottom of the table and take a franchise changing player which is exactly what our future core needs. We won't win a cup with our prospect group until we gain that top-end elite player and I don't believe we have them yet.

  5. Ronaldo gets a 4 game suspension for this

But In the NHL you almost have to kill someone to get suspended four games haha like this

tough titties for ronaldo. the guy made 93 million last year.

  6. Wonder if Canucks signed Nilsson instead of Miller because he's trade-able while Miller would have demanded a no trade clause....Better to have trade-able assets in a rebuild then not. May have been a contributing factor

    1. JM_

      JM_

maybe.... although I don't think playoff teams would be clamouring for Nilsson this year, maybe next year if he does well this season. Miller got a nice deal from ANA that included term. We were looking for a 1 year deal from Miller, that and being close to his family were the key things imo.

    2. Quantum

      Quantum

I think Ryan Miller actually forced the Canucks hand with the signing. I think Ryan Miller decided on signing in Anaheim long ago and informed the Canucks in early to mid June of his decision, ultimately forcing the Canucks to sign Anders Nilsson. The good thing with Anders is that, like you said, he's on a cheap deal that's easy to trade. The bad news is that goalies are tough to trade so he may not be dealt unless Demko forces the Canucks to make a move next year. It'll be interesting how this all plays out.

    3. mpt

      mpt

Its more like Miller chose going to Anaheim than signing with us, not the other way around

  7. Canucks should sign Wideman and Jagr too cheap one year deals and flip them at the deadline. Perfect way to acquire more picks while giving kids time to develop in Utica. Trade Dorsett for what you can. Trade Tanev for futures like Liljegrin+Kapanen

    Sedins-Granlund

    Baer-Bo-Jagr

Bring in the young as the old get traded. Trade Sedins at deadline and resign them for one year.

haha Calgary must have been asking too much, plus they were somewhat in contention for a playoff spot. Also no one said anything about 1st or 2nd round picks. Im more thinking a 3rd or a throw in with another piece. Also if you look at his stats for last year they're fairly impressive.

  8. Excited that the management group isn't rushing in our prospects anymore. Sign Eberle and Del Zotto and let guys like Boeser and Juolevi develop more. Patience is going to be key with this rebuild if we want to compete again anytime soon

  9. Its sad how we have 13Mil tied up in Eriksson, Sutter and Dorsett. All self inflicted bad cap hits. Thanks Vegas for taking Sbisa at least from us. Benning better not throw too much money at big UFAs this summer. Take some bad cap from teams and gain more assets and move on.

haha all I meant was that Bennings track record with signing players seems to be overpaying them too much in the hope they can produce more then they've shown. Eriksson might have a comeback year but he's getting old and will decline in the next few years.

  10. Theres too much going on, I can't handle this!

Noooooo take Sbisa open up a spot for Juolevi this year.

    4. Quantum

      Quantum

There's been rumors that the Golden Knights will take a few UFAs so that they're not saddled with too many bad contracts and can be players in free agency this year. Makes sense that they'd target a Canucks UFA. They could easily sign Skille to a year deal and send him down as a depth guy too, doubt Skille turns down any contract or just letting him walk.

Them selecting a guy like Skille over a guy like Sbisa only happens, though, if the GK's go for Bogosian over Ullmark.

  12. Honestly, how much worse are we going to be next year if we don't have Tanev? He's an awesome player but its not like he's going to win us games. In the end with or without Tanev we are going to lose majority of the games next year and be bottom of the league. Yes there will be a few more GA but its not going to make much difference. Rather trade Tanev now and sign one or two UFA reclamation project Ds like Girardi, Del Zotto Kulikov or Franson and run with that.

Jim's done some really good selling of Tanev over the last few months. He's gone from "who?" in the east to someone we may have multiple bids on. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a trade.

I resorted to going to HFBoards. I feel so ashamed.

  14. I don't know what the market will be regarding Markov this offseason but he'd be a great guy too sign on a one year deal. Especially if we trade a vet. Guys 38 but had 6 goals, 30 assists, +18 and played 22mins on average! Would be a great player for the short term and then just flip him at the trade deadline!

It's all bad contract team material. Five more years at $6 million per; a full pull no movement clause for one more year and a full no trade for the following two years. I put this one all on Aqua though personally, not on Jim and Trevor. No way are they that stupid.

    3. JM_

How about we see if he can turn things around under Green first?  IMO he was Vrbata 2.0 under Willie, talent that old Willie had no idea how to deploy.

  16. So how many picks will Benning go "off the board" this year with?

    1. Show previous comments  5 more
    2. WeneedLumme

      WeneedLumme

Well, it won't be possible for him to go off the board with 5th overall this year, because there is definitely no consensus there. And in later rounds there's no real consensus in any year. So I'm going to have to go with "zero".

    3. RetroCanuck

      RetroCanuck

Every draft has different levels of prospects based on ratings by pro scouts. Therefore its not hard to go off the board in any round. All Im saying is that Benning is known to go against the flow with some of his picks and in some cases unearth diamonds. And then sometimes you choose off the board and it backfires. Virtanen is the perfect example of this considering how he's developed so far.

  19. Ive basically accepted that the Canucks are going to fall in this lottery. But a top 5 pick is great and definitely what this team needs. It would just be an added bonus if we pick 1st or 2nd. Im my mind third overall doesn't really matter as there are so many players in the same bracket there.
