  1. dhaliwal said he's hearing that canucks and florida are discussing a smaller trade.

if we can pick up one more top 4 d-man this year our retool will be off to a good start.

    1. NewbieCanuckFan

      NewbieCanuckFan

We gave up a 1st round pick & high 2nd round pick (in a deep draft year) to get a top 4 guy from Detroit.  I fail to see how we can get another top 4 guy in a small trade to be honest.

    2. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

I'd like to just see a couple of 2nd round picks.

    3. smithers joe

      smithers joe

we wouldn't get a top 4 d-man from florida but maybe we could get a good d prospect for say hoglander or rathbone and mcdonough.

if you look at it from management and owners plans, they first have to fix the defense, hopefully hronek is the start.

  2. if ALLVIN can trade miller and boeser and attain 2 d-men, this will be a great win. hi-ho allvin.

then if the owner allows a OEL buyout, walla.

It a loooooong time to carry dead cap for OEL...

What happens to CAP when OEL retires

LTIR is recovery, and would be a good scenerio.  Never wishing ill-health though.

  3. speaking of bold predictions,

i say, canucks take on 1/4 of kane's contract for the rangers for colorado's 3rd round pick.

as always, this prediction will self destruct in 10 seconds.

      Kane haS  a NMC

what if he agrees to the deal then changes his mind during the 5 minutes he is a Canuck?

      haha

  4. they say schenn trade could happen by tomorrow.

    1. Curmudgeon

      Curmudgeon

I wish they would keep him, but they won't. I don't think you can easily replace that work ethic, leadership, toughness and respect that Schenn brings. Any trade better be bringing far better than a third round pick. Otherwise, it makes way more sense to keep him.

  5. how much does a player have to be paid, to take home a million dollars a year? would love to see schenn take home a mil per year

    1. I.Am.Ironman

      I.Am.Ironman

Probably around 1.75 or so? They are paid in USD so they can take home 1M CAD somewhat easily. A lot of these guys have corporations so they can control how much taxable income they get paid per year. I presume that even after retirement, their corp can continue to pay them salary.

    2. DownUndaCanuck

      DownUndaCanuck

Looks like he's earned 24 mil in his career. Deserves every penny, good for him.

  6. imo, wolanin is a step up from OEL. and is cheaper. now if only myers would sit a few games.

    1. Alflives

      Alflives

      Good points Joe.

We buyout OEL and replace his minutes with Wooly.

That saves us 6 mil on the cap next year.

  7. a bold prediction:

canucks trade for kravtsov for either a draft pick or aiden mcdonough. if i'm wrong, it wasn't me that made this prediction. it was a grinch.

LOL...........yes a bold prediction for sure! I hope it happens, just so you have bragging rights!

    2. Devron

      Devron

I’d be fine with a project type like Kravstov but they better be shipping out Boeser somewhere at the very least

  8. i hope they don't trade for 4th line and bottom pairing d-men and force them to play further up the line up than their capable off.

    allvin, don't be a benning.

    1. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

We're doomed. They called up Wolanin. He can actually play defence. ;)

    2. Phil_314

      Phil_314

Lol based on the moves we've seen management make (Beauvillier, Garland, Bear, Stillman, Mikheyev) I think it's a good sign to see younger middle-6/ 2nd pair being brought in to hopefully become worth their money (rather that than no-upside guys IMO).

  9. has there been word on OEL's injury, how long he may be out for?

If the Canucks win first overall and DON'T draft Bedard.

Then I give up on the Canucks and I'll be Giants fan.

Honestly, if the coach clashes with either of them I'd boot the coach to the curb. Tocchet is likely another transitional coach anyway imo.

  11. a message to ownership,

if you rebuild it, they will come.

    1. AlwaysACanuckFan
    2. Alflives

      Alflives

The Bo trade return was a rebuilding move. So maybe our owner is (finally) listening to his management about the need to rebuild?

so, he would fit in with the rest of the team.

    4. Ghostsof1915
  13. why aren't the buyout amounts not the a same each year? eg OEL.

  14. imo, players should also carry some risk for their futures.

say a player gets an 8x8 contract

..their base salary should be 5 mil with bonuses to take it 8 mil.

then if their skill decline, so should their bonus money.

      goalie13

I think a better solution is to bring back option years.  That way, after X number of years on the contract the team or the player (depending on terms) can choose to extend the player or let them go to free agency.

    3. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

@Elias Pettersson The NFL can get away with because there's like what? 100 colleges and junior colleges that have Football programs. Each with a full squad and a practice squad (80 players).

There's far more players than there is football teams. The NFL could lock out the players union. Bring in new players. The quality of the product would drop radically, but they could field teams. (It would decimate college football for a couple of years.) Hockey doesn't have that luxury. It barely has enough to keep 32 teams at a high level.

    4. c00kies

      c00kies

I think it could work, but it bonuses would be more subtle.

Example: 7.5M with 1M in bonuses

Players don't want to risk an injury costing them a big chunk of their income.

There would probably be a rule in place that 75% (or a similar number) had to be base salary

  15. i'm not advocating this but if the canucks could max out deals for demko and hughes, they could ratically change the face of this team.

demko to buffalo, hughes to NJ, boeser to was, schenn to pitts, garland to columbus and buy out myers and poolman.

    2. Alflives

      Alflives

Don’t think we should trade Demko. Hughes to the Devils could bring back a big haul.

    3. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

Demko doesn't have much value. However as others have said if someone gives you an offer you can't pass up.  Then you have to at least look at it.

    4. MikeBossy

      MikeBossy

If they are moving all those players Petey would also need to be moved as I don't see him staying which means its not a rebuild its a complete overhaul. The problem I see with ownership is there is so much parity in the league a few tweaks a bit of luck and a team like the Canucks could squeak into the playoffs next year and that seems to be what the owner wants instead of ripping the band-aid off and setting this team up for long term success.

  16. according to cap friendly, abby now only have 8 forwards. what am i missing?

    1. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

I don't think Cap Friendly will mention players signed with Abby that the Canucks have no contracts with.

    2. Putgolzin

      Putgolzin

Right - for example, I kind of think Chase Wouters has the potential to become our 4th line C at some point but he's only an Abby Canuck right now, no contract with the big club.

    3. stawns

      stawns

and I hope the fix that, Wouters deserves a deal

  17. time to bring back trevor linden,

  18. if PA can move OEL and myers, he'll correct JB's mistakes and if they move JT's contract, they will correct theirs.

Trade Miller before his NMC kicks in, and wait until next TDL when Myers is a pending UFA, and that's $14 million in cap blunders corrected (Pearson can get shipped out too).  I think OEL just needs the right defensive RD partner and bare minimum he can still be a fringe top-4 who can eat some minutes (no need to buy-out, bury or retain on him when we don't really have anyone better).

    3. Coconuts

      Coconuts

If they can move out Myers, Miller, and Pearson that'd go a long ways towards clearing the slate going forward

We're probably stuck with OEL until his buyout looks more palatable, he's serviceable in the meantime though as we're gonna have to play someone in that spot anyway

    4. Elias Pettersson

      Elias Pettersson

We can move Myers in the summer.  Probably have to retain so not to give up an asset.  OEL I think will be bought out.  They will not be trading Miller.  he has value in the top 6 as a PPG guy...

  19. has vancouver called up 2 players from abby or are they moving burroughs and stillman up to the forward lines?

    1. Elias Pettersson

      Elias Pettersson

Stillman is a part of our Stealth tank Joe.  He will replace BO in our top 6 and on the PP...

  20. who has the final say on trades, JR, PA, or a management decision?

how does the draft work, do the first 2 picks get made and then everybody else fall in line?

if 12 place team wins the draft, they can only move up 10 places.

are the next two winners get 1 and 2?

      Coconuts

If they don't think they can retain him it makes sense to add him a piece in a deal, he's not worth a ton on his own as an unproven prospect.

    3. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

People are eager to move Schenn as well. I don't think he will garner the kind of return some think.

However if a team is silly enough to offer a late 2nd or late 1st rounder. That's hard to say no to.

    4. Curmudgeon

      Curmudgeon

McDonough will need time in the AHL to learn the pro game, which is a lot different than the collegiate game. I think he's a good prospect but he's no saviour.
