Is Don Cherry still conscious? Also didn't see Kuz lift the cup must be related to his injury.
Congrats to Washington for shedding the chokers label. Joe Thornton and the Sharks get that honor to themselves now.
-
Missed the prospects on Coaches Corner last game with Don Cherry. Heard Wahlstrom and Boqvist didn't get the invite. Anyone have the clip?

No Boqvist or Wahlstrom? Who decided the list and based off who's ranking? @6string
-
Gerard Gallants doppelganger ganger is DR. Hanibal Lecter. Dude is a big intimidating dude.
-
Benning compared Wahlstrom to Brock Boeser play style wise. I really truely think Wahlstrom is the safest and best pick for the Canucks. He has NHL size, skating, and shot already. I haven't seen an obvious weakness in his game anybody has mentioned out there. If he checks out personality wise he fits perfect on this team. He should be NHL ready after 2 seasons fine tuning and working on the small details of his game.

@Ghostsof1915 Not Juolevi. He'll be too busy gaming.
-
Agreed! K'Andre would be a great option. Big body, great mobility, good passing, underrated shot, can quarter back a PP.
-
Do people really believe the Vancouver Canucks have a top 10 prospect pool in the NHL? 2017 draft looks like a homerun while 2016 other than Juolevi looks real bad.
This concerns me. 2014 bad draft 2015 good draft. 2016 bad draft. 2017 good draft. If the pattern continues the Canucks 2018 draft will be meh at best or at worst they will whiff.

@Chip Kelly normally you’d be right, except Tryamkin’s already implied if not stated that he’ll try Vancouver again after his contract is up. It seems his problem was more with coaching than anything.
-
@thejazz97 Do you have a source for the info or is this just speculation? His last Russian translation interview he didn't seem interested in the city or opportunity.
-
"Yeah you know me... take a 0-2 and make it 0-3" Thanks Drake for pissing off the opposing team. I feel like he hurts the team more than helps has a player ever said they want to play up North with customs, taxes, and less media exposure because of Drake? Wasn't that the whole point? The Raptors have the best bench in the league yet they don't have any real superstars.

@Chip Kelly Nah both are some of the best players in the world. Ask any non bias NBA fan. You can't say they're "good" regular season players. Disrespecting what they have done for the Raptors.

Casey wins Coach of the Year: https://www.tsn.ca/casey-named-2018-nbca-coach-of-the-year-1.1080330 . Apparently, they wanted to give that award and the Executive of the Year to Lebron but he wasn't quite eligible.
-
@ItsMillerTime They are part of the reason the Raptors are relevant. But Lowry is 32, Ibaka is not what he once was in OKC. DeRozan is not a #1 or #2 option on a potential contender. Just have to be real about that. Not saying they are not good. But you have to be GREAT in big games to go from all stars to true superstars.

Baker Mayfield goes #1 overall to the Browns wow just taking wow. Maybe shortest qb ever to be #1 pick It think?
Browns being the Browns.

@HerrDrFunk More like 6 feet and a half with big shoes like Manziel. That is small for a qb. He has been compared to Doug Flutie.
-
Botchford says Canucks really like Noah Dobson. Taj (the Canucks super fan) mentioned on twitter Juolevi was the pick when Botchford speculated last time and was right.
-
I really think Quinn Hughes is going to be a 40 point a year dman in the NHL in 4 years time. Other than his defensive game, size, and left hand shot I don't see why you would go with Bouchard or Dobson who are the "safer" picks but don't have Hughes skating or puck skills and flashiness.
I see a mix of Nick Leddy and Shayne Gostisbehere when I watch his game.

I've mentioned this in the Draft Threads, but I think Quinn Hughes is a better skating Brian Rafalski. Thats a 40-60 point dman for a good 10 years. If we can get a player like that, who would complain? I might just have an affection for him because I've seen Michigan a bunch of times this year, but he is my 2nd fav player in the draft behind Dahlin
-
@Chip Kelly I wouldn't stress over Wahlstrom staying in school for all 4 years and then dipping when he is F/A eligible. Harvard is a fantastic school, but so are Northeastern, Boston College, Boston University, and Notre Dame. How often do guys that go to those schools stick for 4 years? He can always go back and finish his degree in the summers or after he retires. Also I think knowing what his major is could help in making a prediction of how long he will stay at school
-
@Rounoush I'd argue Canucks have that crease clearer named Gudbranson. Skilled puck moving d who can skate and have a legit high offensive ceiling are hard to find more valuable right now imo than a pure defensive Tanev or 2 way type like Edler. Hughes brings the game the Canucks have lacked on d since Ehrhoff left town.

Underdogs to top dogs. I don't know how to react my teams never win.

Congrats Chip, happy for Eagles fans today, even though I'm a Steelers fan. I may have called in sick if the Pats won lol. "I don't wanna face the day". Enjoy the next year as champions. My wife and I have a small, separate tree for our sports room, and every year we buy a new Christmas ball (the Superbowl champions). Looking forward to putting an Eagles one on the tree next year. Oh, and you just got to buy yourself a Superbowl Champions t-shirt or hat. Wear it proud.
-
Mike Green could be the Offensive puck moving pp d man Canucks have lacked since Ehrhoff. Canucks should try to sign him as a UFA.

Yeah but Edler hasn't put up good offensive numbers since Ehrhoff left town. Carlson is not coming to a rebuilding team an unlike Ericsson Green would have only a 3 year deal. Canucks only chance to land UFAs are 1) if they are from the area and want to play here or 2) Canucks offer more money and pitch them on having a bigger role.
I honestly don't see Green or Carslon or Evander Kane or Tavares wanting to come.
This was just a slightly amusing thought.
-
How does Jim Benning not have a contract extension yet? Why does Linden feel like he needs to wait till after the deadline? Aquilini's growing impatient of rebuild already?
-
@SILLY GOOSE By the sounds of your handle you know silly when you see it.
-
Last week was amazing. This week I am literally shocked. I have never in my whole life witnessed a team with more heart and more destiny. #FlyEaglesFly &^@# YEAH!!!
-
MIRACLES DO HAPPEN!!! OH MY GOOOOD!!
-
Benning don't make the same mistake twice and pass on another Tkachuk again. No brainer pick in top 6.

@Chip Kelly he hasn't been a notably high scoring player (not bad just not "elite"), so thats probably the main area. But if he gets into the net front in the NHL like he does now it'll pay off. My only concern is his attitude about being here, so the combine interview will be important.
-
Surprised CDC has not crashed after Travis Green trolls every fan watching the season opener by healthy scratching Brock Boeser in favour of Dorsett and Burmistrov.
The real surprise is Virtanen over Boeser on opening night who legit had that?
- Show previous comments 9 more
-
I get the impression that Green doesn't like Boeser a whole lot. Seems like he was reluctant to have him make the team, despite having an unreal camp. Also, in his interview after training camp had ended, he seemed to indirectly say things to undermine what Boeser did in training camp, and now here we are. Opening night, and he's sitting.
-
I don't want to make a thread about this but can someone tell me in any concrete tangible terms why Derek Dorsett is not on waivers yet? Can't they just eat the 2 years left of his deal and move on?
- Show previous comments 5 more

To be fair, DD is 30 years old. Sure he may be a little over paid but we gotta give him a chance to play out the year or at least half of the year before we decide to waive him.
He's got more cajones than anyone on the roster. You gotta give him every chance possible to succeed.
Plus we'll have plenty of youngsters getting slotted in when there's injuries. No need to rush anyone.
-
Yeah.. suck my Terry flaps grab my Terry folds you piece of $&!#.
-
Where is the Nikita Tryamkin thread about his comments calling Vancouver a drug addict city that smells like grass everywhere and has lots of Chinese and Hindu fans?
-
Hitmans bodyguard or Wonder woman going to see one tonight which one need answer ASAP!!!

Jake Virtanen, who turns 21 in August, doesn’t need another year in Utica. -Ed Willies

I'm not just hoping, but I'm suspecting that he may actually stick with the team this year. It all hinges on what kind of shape and mentality he comes to camp in. Greener saw the progress he made last year, chances are he's going to be given every opportunity to play here.
When Virts was a rookie, he actually played well for the minutes he was given, but seemingly wasn't afforded a lot of trust by WD, then the following training camp came around and he had no option but to go to Utica. He's got all the tools, just need to see if he's motivated enough to put them together at this level.
He's got the physicality and skill we need.

What would Canucks need to give up to get Tyson Barrie now that they have Makar?
- Show previous comments 9 more
-
Barrie is a entertaining to watch let's get this straight this ain't about wins and losses right now at this stage of the Canucks it's more about putting butts in seats and being a entertaining team to watch again.
Winning back the fans with energetic fast physical and skilled hockey.
Barrie gives them what they haven't had since Ehrhoff. D don't sell tickets Offence does.
They are gonna suck regardless why not have some fun and get a good offensive d man to play with the young skill forwards coming up?
Price might be crazy but Benning has said numerous times he is looking for a #1 skill center who can be playmaker
And a #1 pp QB/ offensive d man to put up points.
-
Well said S'all. Trading for Barrie is exactly that scenario - one step forward, two steps back.
@Chip Kelly, for me it's not wins and losses, it's about rebuilding the right way.
-
Can the Canucks get in on this action? Let's get some transactions going Benning is this a sign of things to come July 1?
-
We don't need to get in on anything. The only trading chips we have are Edler and Tanev, and Benning has said neither are going anywhere anytime soon. I'd love to get a second pick in the top 5, but its just not going to happen.
Not to mention the value of D in the recent trades is quite low. I'd rather keep Tanev than trade him for scraps.
