asian player
kk know your hockey... sweeney had no choice they where tight up against the cap... Yep, the first thing you do when up against the cap is to sell off your future #1 defenceman
Monty
They might have the best top 4 d in the pacific but if sign giordano for the rumoured 8-9m then it's gonna squeeze someone out Giordano-brodie Russell-Hamilton xxxxxx-wideman Another option is they don't re-sign Giordano, trading him at the deadline. Calgary was able to squeeze into the playoffs with Giordano sidelined for the remainder of the season. With Hamilton in, perhaps it's not as necessary for them to re-sign Giordano, especially if he ends up requesting anything near the $8M mark. And when you look at their prospect depth on defense with Andersson, Kylington, Kulak, Wotherspoon, and Kulak, perhaps Giordano is not necessary for their long term plans. Not saying any of those guys can hold a candle to Giordano now (or in the future), none of us can know that for certain. However, with Brodie, Wideman, Hamilton, and Russell, certainly one one of them is expendable.
Mike Vanderhoek
So this price was not an option for the Bruins ? or Hamilton simply wants to be in Calgary more so than Boston.
TheRussianRocket.
kk know your hockey... sweeney had no choice they where tight up against the cap... That's utter bs. They supposedly didn't have enough money for Hamiltom but them signing McQuaid, trading for Rinaldo, and eating half of Lucic's salary adds up to over $6m. And now they somehow have the space to trade for Bickell too. ...sorry, I don't buy that crap.

Hugor Hill
Giordano, Russell, Wideman, Brodie, Hamilton.. Makes our D look like piss all due respect to them I hear Duncan Keith is available as well. Maybe the Flames should go after him.

And underpaid, deserving more bucks on his next deal as well. So Russell and Gio. In that context; Hamilton + Kylington + Anderson etc... was smart
DownUndaCanuck
They're building a core that is eerily similat to Chicagos. Hamilton = Keith Giordano = Seabrook Brodie and Russel > Hjarmalsson and Oduya Gaudreau = Kane Monahan < Toews Hudler = Hossa Bennett < Sharp Their goalies the omlu wildcard right now but even Hillers playing amazingly and they have Ortio in the wings. Wqtch out folks, here comes the next big dynasty.

He's not a pure PMD with lightning speed like Keith. edit: and Gio is nothing like Seabrook . But I do get your point. Built on solid D. Its probably closer to LA's team with waves of mobile guys who can handle and skate the puck.

Wqtch out folks, here comes the next big dynasty. theyre missing their Byfuglien. I somewhat agree though, very similar to Chicago... In fact they even beat us the same way. Game 6 high scoring game, looks like we'll win, then they catch up and won't stop. Ferland was like their Byfuglien except instead of getting into Luongo's head he got into Bieksa's. Also in regards to Brodie.... Was it just me or was he horrible apart from one or two games in the series? Didnt see all that much from him in the series, just giveaways to Horvat. FireGillis
Lame! I wanted him to push for 7m. This is actually a good deal for the flames.

Phil_314
Theyre gonna need it next year for Monahan and Gio. And Gaudreau + Granlund + Hudler Smid ($3.5 x 2), Engelland ($2.917 x 2), Raymond ($3.15 x 2), heck even Wideman ($5.25 x 2) and David Jones ($4 x 1) can be moved and that's lots of cap space (if they're all moved by next season, can have up to $18.8 moved for next year, and $14.8 the year after). Heck, even Stajan ($3.125 x 3) and Bollig ($1.25 x 2) can be moved if needed to fit the major contracts. They may need to scrape the bottom of the barrel to fit players in, but that's where having strong guys on ELC's come in handy. Look how Chicago and Anaheim keep revamping-- it's as if they took a page from that book.
