Take a Peak Inside the World's Largest MegaChurches

While the US is the hub for The Prosperity Gospel, with large churches with televised broadcasts, and people being convinced that financial blessings are the will of God, and donations to Christian ministries will increase their own material wealth, it's a growth business around the globe.

Take a look at some of the largest megachurches around the world, based on weekly attendance:

Yoido Full Gospel Church, S. Korea 253,000 weekly attendance

Yoido Full Gospel Church founder and leaders have recently been found guitly of tax evasion. Upwards of $12 million in stolen funds. Apparently the 'good' life wasn't good enough.

Calvary Temple, Hyderabad, India 120,000 weekly attendance

A judge had ordered the construction site of this temple be razed to the ground before it was completed, but it was a misunderstanding. The founder purchased the property and had submitted a proper application to build a shed for conducting prayers by the devotees. Big shed.

Deeper Life Bible Church, Lagos, Nigeria 120,000

A Deeper Life pastor and Nigerian lawyer Eric Abakporo has been found guilty by the fbi of fraud and sentenced to six years. They state that only God can curb corruption in Nigeria. Apparently the fbi can too.

Elim Church, San Salvador, El Salvador 117,000

Based in the slums of San Salvador, it's members are targeted by gang violence daily.

But as we know, nothing really compares to the good ol' USA when it comes to glitzy and glamourous places of worship. This is the largest in the US.

Lakewood Church, Houston, TX 47,000

Pastor Joel Osteen is essentially a motivational speaker and has used his church to sell books and of course to gain vastly excessive wealth for he and his family. He is not sorry for this ongoing con act. "Apologizing for our wealth would be insulting to our God. Our money is a blessing for others."

Here are the Osteens and some of their many properties:

Why wait for heaven to get your mansion(s)?

Potter's House Church, Dallas, TX 30,000

'Bishop' TD Jakes has had impostors posing as him on facebook in order to trick old women out of their cash. While giving large sums of money to a stranger on facebook might seem questionable, as long as that stranger looks like somebody who said 'God willed it', then it's all good. Does it really matter if the person is legit or not? Probably not. It's not like God himself is sending the checks back.

World Changer's Church, Georgia 20,000

Pastor Creflo Dollar (lol) was arrested for stealing from the tithe. Oh lordy!

Today it's pretty easy to point at the southern US as the mecca of this type of profiteering from religious masses, but when the blueprint was drawn up by the Vatican centuries ago, it's also pretty easy to figure out what the original purpose of this organized religion was. The churches under the prosperity theology are just doing it without the meaningless dogma and bs. It's just straight up give us money for nothing theivery.

As a Christian, the majority of these churches reject the gospel preach and these men are saying what they are saying to make people feel good to give more money to them. Many mega churches are confused or lying on purpose about different passages. its a shame most people put these mega churches and money grabbers as the representation of all Christians.

1 john 4 says

4 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood."

You know a tree by it's fruit. Healthy trees don't produce rotten fruit (if they are taken care of regularly) and dead trees don't produce healthy fruit.

I came here for the architecture, bruh.

same. religion is pretty silly, religious people even more so -- but respect where it's deserved: there are some serious architectural marvels out there, capable of evoking some big time feelings

Start your own church, stand up and say that with a bunch of hallelujahs and people will give you their money too.

That's because some non religious have nothing better to do.

Agreed

it is hard to sit around and not take money that should be earmarked for the poor and use it to fill your own coffers and create monuments to your own ego and some fairy tale deity in the sky. I mean, why follow the book of said fairy tale when you can demand the poor go to jail or be poor somewhere else.

I wish I had something better to do like that. maybe then I could write my own self righteous prattle on a board somewhere instead of having nothing better to do than mock.

All joking aside, while the architecture is quaint, anyone who looks at these with anything but derision needs to seriously get their head on straight. It's a joke that multi million dollar monuments to people not piety are being built while people are starving on their door steps

Just easy targets....for all the profession of acceptance....a pointless thread like this is just an opp for piling on and attacking a poster like jazz....99.9% of the anti religion crowd here or any social justice, environmental justice warriors here do nothing about the "issues" other than the weak keyboard attacks we see here.

Pretty pathetic.

The flip side to a thread like this is all the people of various faiths who have selflessly given of themselves at times and in some cases for their entire lives and congregate with their fellow believers in slum conditions and even under threat to their lives...

But hey just post a thread and take cheap shots...its safer

Blah blah blah religion sucks over and over and over thread after thread after thread.

Faith and religion. Two separate things.

You're absolutely right.

In the letter that James wrote, he said this: "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." I'm pretty sure most of the churches in the Western World don't do this. Heck, even I don't do that; that's something that I need to start doing.

Like you said, beautiful architecture, but I'm pretty sure that you don't need purple floors and fancy hi-def screens if you're not giving to the poor and/or evangelizing outside of TV talk shows.
