Your opinion though. I typically find NHL CS very swayed by "sexy" picks and they often miss really badly after the obvious top one to three and are downright horrid in identifying gems like the Karlssons of the world. In 2008, for example (you chose 10 years, so went back that far), they had the following for international skaters - he was fourth and they had him outside first round in an overall sense. North American skaters ranked ahead of him included: Luca Sbisa, D; Colby Robak, D; Joshua Bailey, C; Michael Del Zotto, D; Zac Dalpe, C International had three ahead of him: 1. Nikita Filatov, LW, Russia; 2. Kirill Petrov, RW, Russia; 3. Mattias Tedenby, LW, Sweden; 4. Erik Karlsson, D, Sweden; 5. Anton Gustafsson, C, Sewden; 6. Roman Josi, D, Swtizerland; 7. First of all, Saad might have been BPA to some scouts, but a lot had Jensen going higher than he did. It is a crapshoot. Especially later in the round. Yup, Jensen fell from being a projected mid-round pick to us, not that different from how Chychrun fell last year or Vilardi this year. It doesn't mean you have to pick that player if they've fallen past projections, just that you have to be prepared to live with the risk of whatever drawbacks are keeping teams from picking them. 27 minutes ago, skolozsy2 said: Hawks 1st selection was Mark McNeill. He's been a beaut. Yup, nobody's perfect. They could have taken Klefbom with their first pick (taken right after McNeill) but still waited to pick Saad. But "it's not hindsight"... Saad is so bad D: Whole 42 picks before he was taken including the entire first round and the top of the second so lots of teams had 1 or more chance to take him. A better negative comparative take of that draft year result would be: Canucks took Jensen 1 pick before Rakell.. Boston Bruins Scouting lead by our man Benning took Khokhlachev at 40 over Saad at 42 and missed on the best russian in the draft Kucherov at 58. Just assign all the players according to somebody's "BPA". Btw, who was "BPA" when the Canucks took Jordan Schroeder? How about in 2008 when they took Hodgson? Tre Mac
Hated the pick but wasn't concerned at the time because that elusive window was still open. Now all I am looking at is a huge piece of plywood blocking my view.

Lancaster
He had all the physical tools to be successful in the NHL... but just didn't seem to have that "X" factor to be an NHL pro for whatever reason. Smooth skater, elite wrist shot, good offensive abilities, with size and strength, and had a strong 2-way game back in junior.... not a bad pick, just not every player makes it. What a waste... still, could be worse, at least we didn't select Zack Phillips or Tyler Biggs (neither player has played an NHL game/projects to ever play one) that year (2011!) I really wanted the Canucks to take him that draft, was pissed when we passed him over. The other guys on that list I had no idea who or what they were about. They really botched that one up, best D in the league (arguably) and top 10 in the league. Rest of the top 10 had little to literally 0 impact.
