Man Slaps Parents With Lawsuit For Destroying Vast Porn Collection

Sunday, Dec 20, 2020 - 23:00

According to The Holland Sentinel, a 42-year-old man living in his parent's basement sued his mother and father for throwing out his extensive pornography and sex toy collection.

Paul and Beth Werking, of Grand Haven, Michigan, were sued by their son David Werking after they destroyed 12 moving boxes of pornographic films, magazines, and sex toys, valued at more than $29,000.

David Werking, who moved in with his parents in 2016, following a divorce, filed the lawsuit in federal court in April 2019, claiming his parents illegally destroyed his vast porn collection, which included titles such as "Frisky Business" and "Big Bad Grannys," AP noted.

The man initially filed a complaint with local police, but the Ottawa County prosecutor rejected it. The lawsuit includes an email from his father stating:

"Frankly, David, I did you a big favor by getting rid of all this stuff for you."

David Werking, who currently moved out of his parent's home and lives in Indiana, is seeking triple financial damages of approximately $87,000.

Judge Paul Maloney agreed with David Werking that his parents had no right to destroy his porno stash.

Although a final judgment amount has yet to be announced, David and his parents have until Feb. 16, 2021, to file written submissions on the amount of money owed for the destroyed property.

A message to all millennials living in their parents' basements: maybe a porno stash in digital form is the best way to go.

I think the Brexit thread got purged. So I'll put this here ...........

Brexit deal "likely within hours" as other reports say ministers told a deal is done

Wed 23 Dec 2020 15:49:54 GMT

The nightmare could be over

It's been five years of non-stop Brexit in the UK but we may finally be at the finish line. Robert Peston from ITV reports that ministers are hearing that a deal has been agreed.

Meanwhile, the Guardian reports that a "deal appears likely to be announced within hours"

A meeting of EU ambassadors has been pencilled in for Christmas Eve to start the ratification process. Sources in Brussels and London confirmed they believed the talks were now coming to a successful conclusion.
A final call is believed to be scheduled for today.

Without time to formally ratify the deal before the new year, both sides have agreed to a "provisional application" on Jan 1, the report says.

More from the BBC:
Brexit deal "likely within hours"

EU ambassadors meeting has been convened for tomorrow

Wed 23 Dec 2020 17:36:42 GMT

Report from RTE

RTE's Tony Connelly reports:

A meeting of EU ambassadors (Coreper) has been convened for tomorrow morning, to be briefed on Brexit negotiations, source
That's another clear sign that Brexit deal is virtually done.

More reports that a Brexit deal is done, Boris Johnson could have statement tonight

Wed 23 Dec 2020 18:30:45 GMT

Daily Mail report

Daily Mail report
Reports continue to highlight how close a Brexit deal is but they're not universal.

The Daily Mail reports that a "Brexit deal is done" but that chief negotiators are still finalizing the text. With that, UK sources say it's "highly unlikely" the deal will collapse.

Meanwhile, the Independent is reporting that "significant gaps" still remain.

Other reports say that Boris Johnson is considering a statement tonight but that he's wavering on waiting until tomorrow or until there's no risk of a surprise problem in a detail.

UK government is reportedly wavering about issuing a statement tonight

Wed 23 Dec 2020 18:35:15 GMT

Daily Mirror reports

Now.... The Daily Mirror is reporting that the UK government is wavering about issuing a statement tonight.  Also, EC Pres. von der Leyden has an scheduled her statement.

There seems to be a little cold feet, or so it seems.

Things are just f***ed down there: https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/nashville-explosion-1.5855066

Explosion in downtown Nashville may have been 'intentional act,' police say

Police earlier said they suspect vehicle was involved in blast

Authorities believe an explosion that rocked the downtown Nashville area early on Christmas Day was a deliberate act, according to Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

Police spokesperson Don Aaron said the 6:30 a.m. explosion, which shattered glass and damaged buildings, was believed to be "an intentional act." Police earlier said they believe a vehicle was involved in the explosion. He said three people were taken to area hospitals for treatment, although none were in critical condition.

This one is just weird.  It'll be interesting to see what motives come of this.  When you hear "blast, explosion", you think terrorist attack, but I highly doubt human lives were purposely targeted here.

sounds like the rv that blew up had a p.a. sytem warning people the vehicle was going to blow up.

may have been human remains found from the rv.

A "public" suicide perhaps?

could be. There wasn't a gravy seal threat attached, which was my first thought.

There is talk that he was an anti-5G activist. His goal was to disrupt 5G infrastructure without killing anyone. He definitely had the loudspeaker warning people to get a way, based on all reports. He targeted a cell phone tower specifically.

It's also possible he just did it for attention during his suicide:

While investigators tried to piece together a possible motive for the attack, a neighbour recalled a recent conversation with Warner that seemed ominous only in hindsight.

Rick Laude told The Associated Press on Monday that he saw Warner standing at his mailbox less than a week before Christmas and pulled over in his car to talk. After asking how Warner’s elderly mother was doing, Laude said he casually asked him, “Is Santa going to bring you anything good for Christmas?”

Warner smiled and said, “Oh, yeah, Nashville and the world is never going to forget me,” Laude recalled.

Definitely messed up. Although I wish more suicide bombers would give people warnings of their intentions beforehand.

I've never heard of Lin Qi before.  But I thought, with his gaming background and his interest in Sci-Fi, that some here might be interested in this story if they missed it:

*************************************************************************************************************************

A Sci-Fi Dreamer’s Poisoning Death Shocks China

The “billionaire millennial” Lin Qi was working with Netflix and the “Game of Thrones” creators to bring a Chinese best seller to the screen. The police have a suspect, and fans have questions.

He was sometimes called the “billionaire millennial,” and his ambitions were no less grand than his nickname.

Lin Qi, a 39-year-old video game tycoon, had spent a small fortune buying up the rights to a Chinese science fiction novel called “The Three-Body Problem.” A tale of alien invasion that intertwined cosmic machinations with the horrors of China’s Cultural Revolution, the book had become an unlikely international best seller that counted Barack Obama among its admirers.

Mr. Lin saw even bigger possibilities. He envisioned a global film and television franchise based on the book and its two sequels that would approach “Star Wars” levels of cultural recognition. He was working with Netflix and the creators of the “Game of Thrones” television series to make it come to pass.

He would never see it happen. Mr. Lin was poisoned in December, according to the police in Shanghai and accounts from state-run media, and he died on Christmas Day. His death has rattled China’s technology and gaming worlds and set off furious speculation about who killed him and why.

I've read the Three Body Problem series. It's awesome and I'd be over the moon (no pun intended) if it made it to the big screen.

Hopefully someone else picks up the ball.

I'm with you. I still appreciate you recommending that series a few years back. I have since paid it forward and suggested it to multiple people.

The situation with the riots in DC have pretty much taken over the news cycle....so much so, that a plane crash with 62 missing and presumed dead, is not getting a lot of attention:

Indonesian authorities say they have found the location where they believe a Boeing 737 passenger plane crashed into the sea shortly after take-off from the country's capital Jakarta on Saturday.

The Sriwijaya Air jet was carrying 62 people when it disappeared from radar four minutes into its journey to Pontianak in West Kalimantan province.

On Sunday, signals thought to be from the jet's flight recorder were traced.

More than 10 ships have now been deployed to the site with navy divers.

"We have detected signals in two points, this could be the black box," the chief of Indonesia's search and rescue agency, Bagus Puruhito, said.

Investigators are also analysing items they believe to be wreckage from the aircraft, including a wheel and what they say could be part of the plane's fuselage.

A spokesman for the Jakarta police, Yusri Yunus, said two bags had been received from the search and rescue agency.

"The first bag contained passengers' properties, another bag contained body parts," he told reporters, adding: "We are still identifying these findings."

Search and rescue efforts were suspended overnight but resumed early on Sunday. Four planes have also been deployed to help with the search.

The missing aircraft is not a 737 Max, the Boeing model that was grounded from March 2019 until last December following two deadly crashes.

Quite shocking actually, they were finding only body parts last I heard.

My girl is Indonesian.

It shames me to say I did not know much about one of our nearest neighbours and the fourth most populous nation on earth,

until I met her.

She plays in a gamelan ensemble.

Wonderful music often with a shadow puppeteer telling a story.

Global BC1 and CBC News had the initial "breaking news" and regular updates on a spot in their rotations, so it wasn't completely blocked out by the goonery in the States.  I will agree though that the stuff down south was more prominent in their news cycles, taking up perhaps a third of their regular broadcasts regurgitating (somewhat poorly) the subtleties of the political system and interactions to expect.  I guess it can't really be helped when you have such a massive neighbour whose economy and border can't be ignored.

Yeah, there's really no "blame" to be assigned. News outlets are going to lead with whatever people are most interested in. It's just a sad commentary that people are more interested in the antics of Donald Trump and his legions of devotees, than they are the deaths of 62 people in Indonesia.

Maybe if they couldn't find any trace of the downed aircraft, or it was shot down by Iran, China or Russia....
