Benn plays the left side, doesn't he?

Apparently equally comfortable playing either side.

Read today (forget where) is perfect for us if Tanev is traded along with OJ making the bigs -  Benn just switches over

I think there are some guys who look ahead and think "how much money do I want in the bank when I'm 35 and ready to retire?" Then they figure out the best place for them to play and still fulfill that financial goal. The surplus dollars are less important for guys of this mindset.

Definitely helps that he came out of the Rockets organization and the Okanagan is still his home.

not much choice when Rogers Leafsnet bails on Free agency for the now pathetic Toronto BlueJays.

If you get Snet 360 One, it wasn't listed but they're doing signing news on that side.

Much less money than the internet was convinced he was gonna get from us.

Immediate upgrade on the backend that is more meaningful than some will give him credit for.

The ability to leave him exposed in the expansion draft.

Great deal.

Haha yah, what happened to that reported 7 x 7M deal that had everyone freaking out?

Good signing, Benning.

I'm really surprised that Myers took all these terms

1) 6 million imo leaves potential frenzy money on the table.  That is a mere 500k uptick on his previous market value.

2) 5 years term - again, probably could have milked more out of his free agent leverage, particularly as arguably the best D available.

3) Also willing to be exposed in the expansion draft.  That part is a bit shocking considering 1 and 2.

It looks like he really wants to be here.

I'd love to know Green's thoughts on this signing - I think it's very unlikely that he doesn't approve - so it will be interesting to hear him comment on it.

I'm quite content with all 3 points.

Goes with what I preach on signing reasonable deals to ensure your team has a chance to retain its players and be a playoff team.

This deal shows good character to me already and someone who wants to be here.  What's not to like about that?

Panel's first question for Spezza -- did you have Leafs jammies, too?

Leafs desperately need a shutdown center - and a few RHD.....they sign Spezza.

Maybe Spezza is about to turn into a shutdown center at age 36.
