Popular Post JM_
This one is just too good to pass up. Can you really call this place a school if they are this obtuse? Catholic school bans 'Harry Potter' books because they contain 'actual curses and spells' WENN - WORLD ENTERTAINMENT NEWS NETWORK Updated: September 3, 2019 SHAREADJUSTCOMMENTPRINT The Harry Potter books at a private Catholic school in Nashville, Tennessee have been removed from library shelves on the advice of exorcists. St. Edward Catholic school’s pastor Rev. Dan Reehil claims author J.K. Rowling’s books contain “actual curses and spells”, and therefore they’re not suitable for kids. In an email to parents, obtained by The Tennessean, Reehil explains he consulted with exorcists, who recommended he remove the books. He wrote: “The curses and spells used in the books are actual curses and spells; which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits into the presence of the person reading the text.” The school pastor reportedly sent the email after a parent asked why her daughter couldn’t find a Harry Potter book in the library. https://vancouversun.com/news/world/catholic-school-bans-harry-potter-books-because-they-contain-actual-curses-and-spells/wcm/325a864b-3350-49e4-9b31-5c1a7c91b1fc

But its also scary to see it become so aligned with right wing politics over the last decade. I feel bad for the kids at this place, years of therapy await.

Popular Post xereau
Quote “I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance” ― Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark 3 4
