I am becoming worried. Really need to pull out a big win and we need our top guys to step up. Petterson has been pretty disappointing lately. The same uptick in physical hockey this time of year seems to be stumping him the same as last year. I really hope he can adapt quickly and help this team string together some wins.

I feel for Bo. He’s captain of a team that seems to have players of varying levels of commitment to the cause. There’s no doubting his commitment to the long term goals of the team, but I do doubt others.

Personally I don’t see his play as consistent.

Isn't Zack regarded as a part of the roster even if he is sitting? So Bailey could replace Beagle, and Zack could still replace LE.  Couldn't that work?

MacEwen is part of the roster.  Eriksson and MacEwen have priority to play over Bailey.  Bailey can only play if there are less than 12 healthy players.

Roussel and Eriksson will slot in as Pettersson’s wingers today.

Blunt, I would consider putting Miller with any centreman who is moving his feet these days. Pete has been dead-man-walking as of late.

Vancouver Canucks (34-23-6) vs. Columbus Blue Jackets (31-21-14)

4 p.m., Nationwide Arena, TV: SNET; Radio: SNET 650 AM

THE BIG MATCHUP

Louis Domingue vs. Pierre-Luc Dubois

Unless Thatcher Demko was spectacular or had a light workload Saturday in Toronto — or if Travis Green wants to keep riding the stopper to get him into a rhythm — expect Louis Domingue to make his Canucks debut after being acquired at the trade deadline from the New Jersey Devils for goalie Zane McIntyre.

With Jacob Markstrom nursing a knee injury, the onus could be on Domingue to deliver in a crucial test with the Canucks trying to maintain playoff positioning. And because the Blue Jackets have won but one of their last 10 games (1-4-5), have the 27th-ranked offence and 26th-rated penalty kill, it could allow Domingue to gain traction with his new club. And it could give Demko time to work on technique with goalie coach Ian Clark.Oliver Bjorkstrand is the only Blue Jackets forward to crack the 20-goal mark with 21 goals — Zach Werenski has 19 and Dubois has 18 — so Domingue will look to build on his last NHL start before the deadline, a 36-save effort, even though it was a 3-0 loss to the Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues.

Domingue extended his win streak to 11 games a year ago with the Tampa Bay Lightning. However, he cleared waivers in September and was sent to the minors. He was dealt to the Devils on Nov. 1 and recalled to back up Mackenzie Blackwood, but won just three times in 16 appearances and had a bloated 3.79 GAA and .882 saves percentage. Placed on waivers again, he was assigned to the AHL and then the Canucks came calling.

“Going into it (trade deadline), I wasn’t sure what my future would hold,” said Domingue. “But ultimately, if you focus on that, you’re not going to have success. I’m going to look at it and help get the team to a level it needs to be at. It’s playing without thinking. I’m ready for the challenge. This is nothing new to me.”

FIVE KEYS TO THE GAME

1. Circle the defensive wagons

Regardless of who starts, there must be a better commitment to team defence. Jacob Markstrom was the safety net in winning seven of eight games when he faced at least 40 shots. Getting pucks out at the blue-line and not turning them over in that two-foot zone can’t happen because forwards are blowing the zone expecting a pass.

2. Not caught up in Hughes Tour

A consensus in the Eastern media among those who vote for the Calder Trophy, and especially those seeing Quinn Hughes for the first time, is that the dazzling rookie can cement his status as the award favourite by putting on an offensive show. But he’s attracting physical attention and playing simple some nights is better.

3. Torts will turn up temperature

The Blue Jackets haven’t won a game in regulation since Feb. 7 and all that arsenal on the injury list will force the former Canucks’ coach to coax his slipping club to muster up the resolve to hang on to a precarious playoff position. John Tortorella on Dubois: “I’m not mad at him. I’m just not going to play him if he doesn’t compete.”

4. Finding secondary scoring

The Canucks can’t only have J.T. Miller, Tyler Toffoli, Elias Pettersson, Bo Horvat and Tanner Pearson providing the scoring. Time and space in the playoff race are at a premium and the bottom-six mix has to contribute goals.

5. Dragging them in to fight

Antoine Roussel hadn’t scored in eight games and had one goal in his last 21 before facing Toronto on Saturday. The winger hasn’t been as effective as last season. He returned Dec. 3 from knee surgery.

By this math he's assuming that Ari will get 23/30 pts and Cgy will get 22/32 pts.  Add in Edm. and I like our chances of staying ahead of 2 of those teams.  We just have to match Ari/Cgy, not worry about the other division.

I agree, he's built like a tank I wish he played a more assertive game like a Jaimie Benn... he showed it in the Boston game but he needs to be more consistent. He should be the one setting the tone in games as Captain.

Miller looked great with Bo in the O/T, now is a good time to experiment as no lines are going good right now. It does look like Petey is off for whatever reason. Put Petey with Jake or Toffoli and give Bo and Miller a look. Wait,...…. never mind,...……. its Travis Green's line up we are talking about. ::D

Good. He needs to start understanding he's not bigger than the team and get down to honest hockey down the stretch. Too much cheating offensively at all points of the ice.

Kinda feels like a do or die game. Another loss could be a season altering blow to the teams confidence. Demko needs to have a good game. Like really needs to have a good game. No more softy’s as it’s killing the team from the beginning of the game.

3 California teams, CBJs twice, Arizona 3 times?

We have zero success vs “California” teams and Arizona and Columbus are both tough teams

our record vs teams below us in the standings is not great

heck I almost prefer playing the higher team games, we same to game the game more seriously

It's well possible that the other article is correct.  RFAs have to sign by 1 December or they can't play for the rest of the season.   Tryamkin already played on his ELC.  He's now a RFA and the rules might be different in his case vs a player that has yet to sign an ELC.

I think the determining factor is whether they were added to our reserve list
