China COVID - Beijing, is experiencing a "strongly explosive" COVID-19 outbreak

  • A spokesperson for the Beijing municipal government with the "strongly explosive" comment.

Beijing has reintroduced a few minor restrictions (all off-campus and "offline" sports activities for teens would be cancelled starting Sunday). Earlier a spokesperson for the city's government said a recent outbreak "The recent outbreak … is strongly explosive in nature and widespread in scope". Which does not sound too good at all.

Even Chinese Communist Party controlled state media is sweating on the latest developments. On the Beijing outbreak referred to above:

  • The Global Times reporter learned that some districts in Chaoyang have been locked down for 10 days starting Saturday for being found related to the outbreak.

---

Shanghai appears to be back-pedalling a little too. Its China's largest city of around 25mn people and a key economic hub.

  • Authorities ordered PCR testing for all residents in 15 of Shanghai's 16 districts this weekend, and five districts barred residents from leaving home during the testing period.

Yikes, 5 of 25 districts locked down for the weekend. Its a roller-coaster (not the fun type) there.

There is no end in sight to China's COVID zero policy. President Xi Jinping with a motivational talk said:

  • “Persistence is victory, We must unswervingly adhere to the general policy of ‘dynamic clearing’, strengthen confidence, eliminate interference, overcome paralysing thoughts, pay close attention to the key tasks of epidemic prevention and control, and resolutely consolidate the hard-won results of epidemic prevention and control.”

Who had further supply issues on their wtf could go wrong now board?

And when people are “locked down” in China they are actually “locked down”.  Not like here, where the freedumb dumbasses felt they were locked down and their rights were infringed upon.

The whole point is to not give too much power to the government or else you end up like China or Russia

The lockdowns here have saved lives in the short term but have created major shortages and financial crisis, increased mental illness, drug use, crime and have stunted educational and athletic growth in our youth.  Things that will negatively affect us for years to come

Short term?  And long term.

While I didn't necessarily agree with the lockdowns over the first few months.  That was it.  Just 10 weeks.  After that almost everything opened up and it was business as usual ish

If we didn't lock down though, many more would have died.  More importantly, more potential mutations and more pockets of resistance and endless flare ups.

We'd STILL be dealing with major flare ups if we hadn't taken the approach we did.

Alberta didn't.  They now have more dead from the start of this year to June 7th, than they did from year start to June 7th last year.

The only people truly harmed were small businesses elderly family members and those precious few who felt somehow that not being able to get a pint at the pub to complain about everything with their buddies.

This is from the WestJet CEO.  Unfortunately, I already have a flight booked with them through a partner airline, although I'm sure as hell going to be looking into my options.  Going forward, there is no way in holy hell that I am going to fly on an airline that openly shows a complete disregard for safety.  Congratulations on getting me to switch to Air Canada.

Did you know that an estimated 1.6 billion disgarded facemasks have entered our oceans in 2020 alone?

Yeah we dropped 5 spots though

This doesn't make it among the "world's most miserable" though. Right off the bat you can tell how garbage that first article is especially just by the comparison between select countries and NOT the entire world. then claiming it's among the "world's most miserable".

It would be like comparing Loui to a bunch of 1st line players and claiming he's "the worst". Truth? Sure. Does that make him the worst or most miserable player in the NHL? Not even close.

I don't know how everyone else here feels, but I'm with Adam:

Whinge about a public health order, then call an MP a "Disgrace of a Canadian" and finally get all offended at being sworn at.....

I'd like to offer a heartfelt apology to New Zealand, for foisting this Karen on them....
